Radio Problem

Had a strange thing happen teo or three times on a ride last weekend with our 2016 triglide. For some reason the CB changed from headset to speaker setting without any input from me. Did not notice the change until I was using reverse when a loud static noise came through the speakers. I put the headset setting back on and one more time had the static when using reverse but this time it came through the headsets. Any one else ever have this happen?

The reverse motor has replaceable brushes. Brushes have been know to "stick" on some units. This will cause a lot of arcing and this may be the cause of the static you are hearing.

My old Corvette had shields around the spark plug wires to prevent the static getting into the radio. Another reason for resistor spark plugs.

I installed LED running lights and I do get static from the radio when the lights are on. I have some static chokes on order, hopefully that will kill the static. Jim

I haven't had that particular problem with the CB on my 2015 TG, but did have an issue where the CB was transmitting all by itself. My wife and I where riding with another couple and when we came to a stop at an intersection the other couple pulled up along side and said that they were hearing all of the conversation that my wife and were having over the intercom. The CB was on because we were using it to talk to our riding friends. But I definitely was not pressing the CB talk button. And they were not able to talk to us over the CB to tell us what was happening.

My wife and I were totally unaware that our conversation was being transmitted over the CB. We did have another issue that apparently happened at the same time. We lost our radio station and the radio just went into search mode and would not lock onto any radio station even though we were well within range of many stations. After our friends told us what was going on, I turned off the radio and then turned it back on and it worked fine the rest of the day.

I called my dealer's service manager and told him about the problem. He said it was probably a problem with the switch gear on the handlebars. So they replaced the switch gear under warranty and I haven't had that problem since. They did suggest that I cover up the switch gear when I'm washing the trike to prevent water from getting in. I'm not thrilled about that since those switches should be water proof.

One other issue that I had with the infotainment system was with the radio not working properly, and this actually occurred while I was on my way to the dealership to have some work done. I told them about the issue when I checked in and they checked which version of software I had and found it was out of date. They installed the latest software update and that fixed that issue.

I guess you aren't supposed to ride during a rain either then. That's just plain BS.

Sounds like some solid state relay in the CB got itself locked up in transmit mode and that the RF from the CB right next to the radio made the radio's protection circuits kick in blanking the receiver then the scan logic kept searching since it saw nothing out or the receiver.
