Yea, I finally got here. I've posted on another forum some questions about the TG. I have a few more if anyone can help. A little background, I've been riding for over 20 years, owned 4 HD's, senior now, female and don't like my new Deluxe.

I'm in the process of trying to make a deal for a new Black TG. The color allows me to add a few more goodies instead of that beautiful RED one.

What is the opinion of the clear paint guard kit, the clear film that covers the front of the fenders. I'm not crazy that it covers the entire front of the fender almost to the top. Is a product like this necessary, do you find that your fenders get chipped. I do like the idea of something for a kick panel, but not covering the entire fender. Can't polish it like the paint.

The dealer I'm talking with, does install the Fullsac X Pipe, but wants to sell you a PCV that they developed the map for and RC Components slipons. I've read every post about the engine mods and after talking to Alice at Fullsac and watch the video Mr. Wiz posted, I'm impressed with this full product line.

Does the edge of the fender have an issue of chipping without the fender trim?

I'm trying not to purchase anything that isn't functional, except those little chome axle nut covers. Those little chrome thingies sure do dress up the bike!

I look at my little Lux and feel really quilty....

Welcome to TrikeTalk! As for the paint protection film, I have it on my 2011 Merlot/Black TG and I know of several more in the area that also have it. The fenders can and will get chipped up. The film is good at protecting the fender but I think HD could have made it a little different so that it comes around to the side of the fender. It leaves the outside corner of the fender exposed. I believe there are some other kits out there from other sources that may be better but I can't direct you to them.

You can polish the film the same as your paint finish, waxes and polishes will not hurt it. You do need to be careful when removing bug splats and such as rubbing too hard on it can mark the film. I would much rather put the film on and have some scuffing on it then damage to the paint. The film can be replaced a whole lot cheaper than the paint. As for the chrome fender trim I do like it as it adds some nice chrome to the edge of the fender opening and it probably does protect the finish around the edge.

Welcome to Trike Talk Skeet? Here is a link about another product with great reveiws. Ron has ordered it for my TG. http://www.triketalk.com/forum/general-discussion/9644-fender-chip-protection.html I hope this works!

I've been using the 3M film for many years. Love the stuff. You can get it in different thicknesses. There's no way I would pay the price Harley wants for their kit. I bought a 2' x 8' roll from Invisible Mask for $58. I made templates for all the areas I think need protection. Can't see 13 areas that really need the film.
I make a couple pieces of each in case one gets ripped or damaged. It's very easy to make your own and you can custom make the size you want.

Invisible Mask - Clear Bra Automotive Paint Protection, 3M Scotchgard, Carbon Fiber 3M Films

Welcome aboard TT

I have a 2010 with 11000 miles at present. The first 5000 miles or so were either short trips around town or trips off the interstates of 100 to200 miles. The paint held up well and I didnt think the fenders needed anything but some good wax frequently. However, the last 6000 miles have been on much longer trips and also some interstate riding. As stated earlier, the fenders will and do get rock chips. Too late for me to do anything now but if you get a new trike, I would highly recommend the fender protection.

Welcome aboard. The Total performance package is the way to go. The film on the fenders can be done by shop and then you can cover what you want covered. It lasts well and can be replaced. Sure beats having to repaint.

thank you, this is great info to know. And I agree, $129.99 is just too much for what I saw on a new TG.

I have my fender guard up to the top of the fender & down the inside, the flat part & the side cover. The Harley shop had a black trike in [used]&there were chips all the way to the top of the fender. Thats why I went to the top. I spent way to much money to worry about a paint job. So I would do it if I were you. Just my thoughts.

Oh, my, I'll take back what I said. I just saw one that was chipped up to the top of the fender. Since, I can't do it, and no man in the house to do it, I'll just have the dealer do it. When I buy it!

Have a red 2009 TriGlide with 27,000 miles. Have used the protective film from the dealer for probably 15,000 miles. Like the way it protects, but hate the way it marks up. Going to try the fender bras this year. Welcome to Trike Talk.

Thank you for the advice. Question, how often do you have to clean under the bra, to keep the dirt from scratching the paint. I know that I have to clean under mine every day and sometimes twice a day, gets real dirty!

Question: I was reading that HD says the bike is rated at 38mpg's. With the Fullsac mods, how much do you lose in fuel mileage? I do understand driving styles, altitudes, road types all make a differenct in MPG.

Hi Skeet! Welcome to TTalk. I think 38 mpg is generous. I get about 32 to 34 and that was after break-in. A lot of people complain about the milage, but I just don' worry about it. It is what it is and I just ride.

I had the dealership in Gainesville H-D install a race turner and true dual Rhinehart mufflers. Seems to run much cooler however the hot summer weather has not arrived in the Gainesville area. So far I am happy with the results. The pipes are a bit too loud and I may replace them with the stock tri-glide pipes I have stored in my garage..

Jerry did you just buy your TG? I bought mine at the end of Oct. so I'm like you - waiting for summer to see how the heat will be.
I picked up the TG last night after having a SE A/C, SE Fatshotz slipons and a race tuner installed. Last night going home it sounded a little louder (exceptable) but throatier. Stock H-D pipes are the best sounding, but restrictive. Yes, Rhineharts are way too loud for me to. I try and stay away from guys with them. Can't hear my music. LOL

Throttle seems more responsive. All that plus floorboard extensions and a crotch cooler should lower the temps enough so it won't be unbearable.
Can't tell if all this has lowered the temps any since it's been in the 40's and 30's since I bought it. You'll be getting the hot weather before me. :D

I was in Nam in 67-68 also, Marines 3rd tank battalion

Hey again Skeet

Wife gets 36 - 38 on her pretty near stock '11 Tri-Glide. Averaged 35 on our last trip 'around' the Grand Canyon. Elevation changes from 1500 feet at home to over 7,000 in Utah. Mine was a bit lower on the '09, but I'm 100# heavier than her, carry more 'stuff' in the trunk and tend to ride a bit more aggressively. Besides, motorcycles are fun! who cares about mileage when you are having fun.....

Lets face it, If gas gos to 5 or 6 a gallon, I won't be happy but after spending over 30 grand for a toy [that nobody realy needs] I'll still ride like it was 3 a gallon.

I'm jazzed when I go over 130 miles before the yellow gas light comes on.

Screwball - right on - but what about this summer when gas is suppost to be $5 a gallon? :)

Gas is traditionally a buck a gallon more on the water. Last summer we routinely paid 5 and 6 dollars a gallon to fill up the Seadoos and the boat. Both use around 5 gallons an hour at ramming speed, and why go any slower!! Point being FUN is EXPENSIVE. I mentioned on another thread, for the bucks all of us spent on a trike, could have bought 3 Cheapo Toyotas, but they aren't fun.

I thought you were too OLD to be into speed.:D

Anyone using a regular Sirius/XM radio that is plugged into the dash radio. I have two friend that use their older Sirius radios from their vehicles to the bikes. When it rains, they both get out a heavy duty baggie and cover it. The Zumo 665 is a lot of money but it has the GPS, Weather and the Satellite radio. Anyone using this and where did yoiu mount it.

I mounted my 665 on the dash with the harley dash mount kit..Works great..only thing is you have to drill a few holes in the inner fairing..

I did the fairing dash kit also. Just a whole lot cleaner looking. I have the Zumo 660. Didn't want to pay for all that extra stuff. The only thing I would like would be the weather radar. So I'm thinking on getting a small tablet with a weather app.
I only have a 10 year old cell phone that stays in the trunk all the time - for emergencys only. I hate paying a monthly fee.
If I can sell my 660 for a reasonable price, I may just buy a 665. What is the monthly charge for the weather radar??

I think its around 9.95 for weather..

I'm using the Zumo 550 with XM on my Triglide and the built in HD XM unit on my 06 Ultra. The Zumo is mounted to the left side of the handle bar using Ram mounts I bought from Touratech.
