I have a set of the wired HD headset. Can I connect these and communicate with the passenger without the radio (music)? I just want to be able to talk back and forth with the passenger and not have the music playing when not talking. Is this possible?

On my 2019 all I do is turn the radio down.

I turn the VOX setting pretty low, Maybe if your VOX is set way up its picking up the radio. If my VOX is set up 3/4 of the way it picks up road noise and the wind will trigger it. Don't have a clue what (vox) stands for but it's all about the sensitivity of the mouth piece. Don't know all the details but this is what I stumbled across.

I think it means Voice Operated X(trans)mitter or something along those lines. I know on my 07 that had a CB that you could communicate with your passenger. But I always had the music going but I do believe if I remember correctly that there was two different volume settings so you could turn down the music while leaving passenger communication turned up. Have no idea what later models do though.

Absolutely you can use the intercom without the radio / audio. There are separate volume settings for each input source so you can turn the radio / audio volume all the way down and have the intercom operable. No problem at all.

Thanks all for the replies. I figured it out. If you adjust VOX all way up to max., the radio speakers are muted and it is continuous on intercom. I'll try it out on my next ride.

Don't think you'll be happy with that. With VOX always open you will get wind and road noise picked up through the mics and transmitted to your speakers. Very annoying.

Just turn the radio audio volume all the way down and then adjust the VOX to a comfortable setting that allows talk but does not constantly open due to a wind gust, etc.

To adjust the volume(s) you can either 1) got into the set up menus and there is a section where you can adjust volume for each of the various sources or 2) with the VOX not energized and the radio audio active just turn its volume all the way down. Now energize the VOX and while keeping it open adjust its volume. I keep the VOX volume for me and my co-rider at the max all the time and adjust the VOX sensitivity to maybe one or two increments below the mid-point. Except for really windy days when I have to lower the VOX sensitivity even more this works very well.

Thanks. Yeah, I thought the wind and road noise would be a problem. Your way is much better.
