So I'm almost positive that the frames for the 2001-2010 GL1800 is the same as the frame for the 2012-2017. I know that the 2001-2010 seats and 2012-2017 should have the same mounting setup but I have been told that they dont quite fit right when swapping and will have noticeable gaps. The biggest difference I see is the saddlebag design which I think might impact the seat design and I am wondering if that is what causes the mismatch.

The whole reason for bringing this up is that the Cobra was designed around the design of the 2001-2010 and the Viper was designed around the 2012-2017. So when I was looking at conversions for my 2007, I was talked into going with a Viper and glad I did. I truly like the styling and features better. I am wondering if I could think about changing my seat to a 2012+ style. Mine seems to fit ok, but would a 2012+ fit better?

The side panels and seat for a 2010 bike will not work on a 2012 bike. The front mounting of the side panel is completely different, and the 2012 seat will match the older sidepanel.
