question on gauge install

Question on pipe plug beside oil drain plug. Can the pipe plug be removed and replaced by a oil temperature sensor? Do you think a sensor install would restrict the oil flow to much? I looked at oil pans on ebay and it looks like that may be an oil return? There is no straight on photo of the channel for me to see if its open or closed. I know some of you on this forum will be able to answer my question. Thanks in advance, Tom

That is the latest location used by the company. It is good. I have used it on several installations of the temp gauge.
