I've been thinking about this for a while...What do y'all think about us adding a Health & Wellness Forum? It would be a place to share info on health issues, therapy, foods, nutrition, lifestyle, new cutting edge medicines/treatments, insurance, etc....stuff most of us deal with as we age. I could see this as being something beneficial. What do y'all think?

I would appreciate and contribute to this forum. For example, the past two years fighting cancer I would have liked to hear from others on how to deal with it.

Dave, thats exactly why I think it might be a good idea. So many of us at our age, all ages really, are experiencing health issues of all kinds, that I think the shared experience and support would be really, really good. I know there are other forums out there for that, but in this place we already have friends here that we know, so its not like we are talking to complete strangers. Even though we have not all met one another, there is a real kinship here for sure. Anybody else want to chime in please do, I want to hear the nays and the yays opinions.

I too think it would be a good idea to have a spot where we can air out our aches and pains and what we do to get by. But you can be sure that you are going to get the other kind also, and by that I mean not just somebody willing to share get well meds, but the constant sick ones that have had every kind of illness listed and takes every med listed too. I once had a patient (female) every time I asked her if she had ever had an illness, she said yes, so I asked her if she ever had testicular cancer, yup!! LOL !!

We say yes !!! ThumbUp
It would be very beneficial.
Thanks for bringing it up.

I hear you bw, good point...I dont think Im going to do it without thinking it through and getting plenty of good feedback first. I can see the good and bad already. Maybe it should be a private forum?

Sounds like a good idea....But you gotta be careful if people start recommending Med's...

I think it's a good idea. For a long time I have been thinking of starting a thread about heart attacks/surgery. Been 2 years since mine and I still feel like crap. Wondering how other's have recuperated.

I think the new forum should have an active moderator who will keep threads on topic, and is willing to delete posts if necessary.

I really like this idea. If it is to make a support group for people with difficult health issues, then I'm for it and I would participate. I thought that GrandpaDave's response indicated how useful it could be.

Would it be prudent to include a disclaimer in regards to seeking professional medical advice or some rule about "recommending" meds?

I have to agree-seems to me that things would tend to get off track pretty easily........kinda like the thought. BUT THIS IS A 'TRIKE' forum.......

BTWI had beans for dinner!

As an older athlete, I would contribute. However, it would need to fact checked for medical advice info, even if you put a disclaimer in.

Questions About Health & Wellness

Great Idea.ThumbUp

This will be a great forum to discuss and share current preventive maintenance natural alternatives for wellness.

I look forward to the addition of this topic to the forum.ThumbUp

I am OK with it. I have issues that I am dealing with and would not mind sharing my experiences in the hopes that it might help someone who is trying to prevent issues. Jim

The strength of a community is defined by its support of one another in all aspects of living. Everyone is subject to health issues at one time or another and age may or may not be specifically involved. I personally see no reason why there shouldn't be a related section within this diverse community. Seems having other categories such as Guns, Hobbies, Veterans, and Jokes are not distractions to the passion we all share. I personally see no reason why having a contained section dealing with illness and treatments, natural or otherwise would be a distraction, but I'm certain many others are better prepared to make a more realistic judgement than I considering my relative new appearance.

Probably sound like the guys at the diner I go to every morning. They all have the answer 2 better health. But they all have health issues that are self inflicted. I don't c a problem with it. Perhaps may b better as a surviver forum. No diagnosis involved just the things we have 2 deal with on a daily basis.

Now you know I have to ask this. Can we sue if we get bad medical advice? Posters that frequent this forum have a lot in common. Being able to communicate with others in similar situations would provide solace and comfort I would think.

It seems we have a good bit of interest in it. If we do it, should it be a private forum? Meaning that a member would have to either be invited to or request to join the discussion group. Not everyone wants their medical issues open to the world. Thoughts?

I'm leaning toward a private forum I guess. Some of the more general forums have a tendency to wonder off track at times when individuals that don't seem to have a particular interest in the subject still feel compelled to say something whether it's pertinent to the specific topic or not. Just my opinion.

I don't believe it would be a bad idea having it closed to non-members of the community, but a request/approvals have a tendency toward developing divisions. Such a dedicated section seems reasonable. Moral support and good advice can be obtained from senses of indirect experiences rather than dealing with it as a personal physical condition so you'd be closing that avenue, which could actually be a valuable asset lost. I wouldn't push any direction personally and am simply sharing my thoughts that may have not been considered. The average age of membership is another real consideration. I see no reason to shut out volumes of experience with health issues having dealt with brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents and friends. Such experiences contain irreplaceable and valued volumes of information in my opinion, but I'm perfectly fine with it being whatever the decision makers decide it should be.

Thank you for your consideration and leadership. I have been on forums than were nothing more than censorship.

it should be a private forum.

For the reasons as stated in previous posts.
