I'm bringing my TG in next weekend to have the CB and audio upgrade installed. While at the dealer yesterday I noticed it had a PTT switch. I asked the parts guy about it and he said that's the way they come in. No CB just the PTT switch. My bike did not have the TPP switch and I have to pay to have one put in.
My question is how many of you had the PTT switch on their bike when they got it and how many of you didn't???
I'm thinking how do you talk to your passenger on the intercom without a PTT switch?

Thanks

Unless something has change the PTT is for the CB. The intercom is voice actuated and the PTT is not needed.

No PTT on the right handlebar on my 2014 GARYD. There is a PTT switch on the right side speaker for the passenger.

The PTT can be used to over ride the [piece of crap] voice actuated intercom sys. where you miss the 1st few words while trying to talk to ea. other, it is also used for the CB on the models that have one, prior to the 2014 ;).

If I have to pay for it, I have to decide if I really need it. I will use the hand mike 90% of the time and only use the PTT switch only when I wear a helmet, which isn't very often.
Don't carry a passenger.
If I ever decide I want to try/use the voice activation, I will need it right?

Garyd,
Mine is a 2013,... with the radio in the intercom pos. the voice activation and the PTT [press to talk] both work. I always use the PTT sw's for intercom as it does not have that 1-2 sec. delay, eather way will work. the only thing you have to look out far is if you do have the CB on it will transmit any thing you say using the PTT sw's.
Hope I understand you quest. right.

I've got a 2010 TG and my PTT switch is on the LEFT side handlebar.

When sitting on the seat on the 2013 the PTT sw. is on the left, I think it is on the 2014 also.

This post is beginning to remind me of Mr. Tudball [Tim Conway] trying to teach Miss Wiggins how to use the new intercom system in there office :D.

Can't you adjust that VOX down to not loose any conversation? Mine will adjust to the point it stays on, which isn't good either but I have it to where just the slightest voice will turn it on. Don't know how it would work without some kind of voice or noise to turn it on.
When you have your CB on the PTT also transmits & intercom. I guess if you never use the CB it would work.
I also have bluetooth intercom in a pair of helmets that work the same way. Once I got used to the slight delay I don't even notice it.

Sloufoot,
On my 2013 you can adjust the sen. but when you do it will cause the VOX to come on with any loud eng. sound or even the wind noise, and you get a lot of static in the head set, you can adj. the sen. so far that you don't hear all that crap and just use the PTT to communicate with the passenger just as you would with a hand held
push to trans. release to receive, you don't need "no stinking VOX" :D.
Although, for those who use the CB a lot, it may be better to go the VOX route, I have yet to use it ;).

I have a 14TG.... came without a PTT switch (I was told that the very early TG's came with the PTT switch and then they stopped adding them). I had the CB installed on mine when I bought it. I had to buy an antenna and the PTT switchas well as paying to have it all installed. I ended up getting upgraded to a set of lighted switches to get the PTT switch... the dealers way making it right for the problems with the CB. I also replace the radio antenna so the CB and radio antennas would match. On the 14 TG the cruise control switch was moved to the left handlebar side (so one could activate the cruise without removing your hand from the throttle) and the PTT moved to the right side. The PTT also is the only way I know to control the squelch for the CB.
This is a thread I started about the CB earlier:

Yeah, I also use modular helmets so the mike is protected. If I have the shield up I do have those problems to some extent.

I thought I read somewhere that the hand held mike won't work on the 14's.

Don't see why not - unless they completely changed the socket on the tank console.

Come to think about it - maybe they did for the voice activation.

My dealer said he's already added a CB and mike to a few Street Glides and everything works fine.

Well if they install all the stuff I want and it doesn't work - they're going to have to remove everything on their dime. That'll cost them a lot of $$$$$.

I'm just wondering how the new owners are going to communicate with all the other road captains with their CB's?

And why did they leave it on the Limiteds and not on the TriGlides???

GARYD, Have them check the SWR for the CB when they are finished. Most seem to be off the scale around 4+. Best would be 1-1.5. With anything over 2.0 there is a big load put on the finals in the CB & can burn them out. Not to mention loss of range.

Here's the latest from tech support. The hand mike on the 2014's will work, but you have to use the PTT switch - the button on the mike does not work. Or you have to use the headset, which I refuse to do. I don't want to stick anything over my ears.

So I either have to start using my left hand to hold the mike or give up being a road captain or talking with friends on vacation trips. BUMMER. :gah:

I wonder if I leave the mike on the handlebar bracket and shout real loud while holding the PTT switch, will someone be able to hear me?? :)

%$#@%$ Harley - what the hell were they thinking?

Just asking My dealer told me that the lighted switches
wont work because there is no reverse button.Did the reverse work on yours?

I have a 2014 Ultra Limited and the PTT is definitely on the right side. A huge mistake by the Rushmore team. A dangerous move that can cause you to shut your kill switch off while at highway speeds. I was at Harley this morning and was asking about the kit for your trikes. You can't just get a switch, you have to by the entire switch housing unit for $160. I was curious because I wanted to see how a new switch would be installed, but unfortunately it's not just a switch. I've been trying to find out if the cruise control and PTT wiring can be swapped inside the faring to put the PTT back to the left side where it belongs, so far no luck. If you haven't shut off your engine while in curves or on the highway, try it, it'll give you quite a thrill.

If you have the answer please let me know, Framemaker

%$#@%$ Harley - what the hell were they thinking?

That's the problem, they weren't thinking when they broke off ties with Garmin, moved the PTT switch to the right side and removed the accessory plug from the radio. The best bike I have ridden from HD from the triple tree down but they blew it and won't admit their errors on the electronics. No changes on 2015 either, the same stupid mistakes.

What I ended up doing was taking the H-D headset - cutting off the ear pieces - attaching a clamp to the unit and clip it to my jacket. Now I don't have to press 2 buttons at the same time like I had to with the hand mic. Still hate the PTT button on the right side = VERY DUMB move Harley. What morons. Same thing with the POS GPS unit.

Just asking My dealer told me that the lighted switches
wont work because there is no reverse button.Did the reverse work on yours?

I had the same issue for my 14 tri glide with no PTT button, so dealer installed the lighted switch set up, and the saw that the reverse button did not work. They could not figure out a solution so they called HD and after three days were told that HD did not make any lighted switch for the 14 tri glide, so my only option was to buy the entire non lighted switch housing to gain a PTT, however during the three day wait on HD I did some research and found that all HD switches are made the same on the inside, the only difference is on the case and the buttons. In other words all switch wire harness are lighted and have the reverse wiring present, just change out the button caps. I did just that, remove switch cover and popped off the reverse button cap and saw that it had two little plastic tabs on the sides of the bottom of the button that prevented it from rocking down, took my pocket knife and sheared them off, replaced cap and cover and pushed the switch down and there was reverse. Surprised that HD could not realize this simple fix. Told my dealer this solution as they had three other trikes with the same problem and at first they said no way, can't be that simple. I should have charged them for the info.

2014 Tri-Glide... when I use the PTT for the CB, it also activates the intercom. Then when I release the PTT the intercom switches off... it resets after 10 seconds(but if you talk during that time the delay extends). You have to NOT talk at all for the 10 seconds... so it's a "dead zone" for that time. Mechanic at local HD called.. HD says that's just the way it is. Crazy.

Got my 2015 on Halloween and it has no PTT. I checked with the dealer and as stated above, it only comes if you get teh CB option. I checked with the parts department and parts and labor to add just the switch is about 2 HD's. They have to switch out the lower part of the module on the right side and that alone is about $169 + labor. Not worth it to me but I really hate the VOX circuit that they have on these bikes.

I would say that something is out of whack and that is not the way it should be. You can turn of the intercom, which is what I do, as I don't use it. the intercom is voice activated and should just come on as you speak provided that you have it adjusted correctly, the PTT should not have any effect, unless you start to speak prior to using the CB PTT, then the system has picked up your voice via intercom and the a split second later you are pushing the PTT. I always use the PTT button and wait at least a second or two before talking, so who ever hears me won't loose my first words due to system delay. My wife is bad on this as she transmit I only hear half od her first words, either she starts talking just before using he PTT or fails to wait a second until the CB has gone into transmit mode. Hope this helps, the PTT is no way connected to the intercom...???
