pre-load with Roadsmith Kit

I have a 2005 GL1800 with a Roadsmith Kit installed on it. My question is, when I activate the up and down functions of the pre-load system, I hear a electric motor noise very faintly and the numbers increase and decrease on the display. I do not notice any difference in the ride or the physical appearence of the Trike. Do they dis-connect the pre-load system when they install a Roadsmith Kit?

Thanks for any advice on this subject.
Sorry I don't know about Roadsmith, but on Pearl(1990GW/Motortrike) I can see her raise and lower. Also can feel the difference when riding.RIDE SAFE

Your preload is probably working. I do notice on mine the stop on the preload only travels about a quarter of an inch with preload set to 25. I only use my preload in heavy crosswinds, stabilizes the bike very well.

minnlee, i ride a 08 gw with Roadsmith installed dec. 2010. I have tried several different setting on the preload. I have read on TT that riding with the rear suppension a little stiffer that you can corner better and with less sway. I have found that to be true. the trike rides a bit stiffer, however the better handling characteristics out weighs the change in the ride. on the scale from 1 to 25 i set my at about 18, except when riding 2 up and compartments loaded, then I run at 21-22.
Hope you find the right setting. RIDE SAFE!
jt just sayin

Mind if I ask what you weigh? That would give us a point of reference.

I meant jtilmon's weight - trying to get a correlation between his weight and preload settings.

I went on the Trikeshop site and found out that the pre-load system with a Roadsmith conversion is an option. How can one tell if it indeed was installed when the first owner had the Bike converted?
