Pre-Filter

I have a 96se . I keep hearing about a pre-filter that disintergrate I can't seem to find it in my shop book .Can someone please steer me in the right direction:blush:

There are 2 filters to change, the sub filter and the cruise valve filter. They both get forgotten. When I did mine they both crumbled in my hand while taking them out. Might as well service the regular air filter while you're in there.

In the official Honda Goldwing Factory Manual the Sub Air Cleaner Housing and the filter are under "Fuel System" on page 4-19 (I have a '95, can't see that yours would be that much different.) It says to clean it with solvent, but they are cheap, and most of the time they are neglected to the point of disintegrating. Some use a cut down lawn mower filter, it is a flat piece of foam, but as I said, they're cheap. Might as well get the real thing while you are geting the other filters.

The other filter (Mother Honda calls it an "element") is the "Cruise Valve Element" that can be found in "Maintenance" under Cruise Valve Element, Page 3-35. This is an "L" shaped filter in an "L" shaped housing that snaps off. This also has most likely been missed and will crumble. Cheap to replace.

They are tricky to find I had a hard time the first time I looked these pictures may help. the are located under the side fairing covers. U must remove the REV lever on the left side. see pictures the left side is the next picture so you must scroll to it. They snap off quite hard. Mine is a 1997 so yes they are the same. while you are at it , there are also 2 plastic tubes hanging down in that area on the left side only . They have plugs in the ends . remove the plugs,,,,,make sure you put a can or pan under them first.

Don't forget to check out the 2 plastic tubes that are hanging down under the bike in the gen location of the shifter. They fill with some nasty stuff, a product of your breather system .
