Power Vision and Warranty question

2013 TG. Considering a Power Vision. If I have to take the trike in for service would I need to restore the original tune before the dealer gets it. Would they see traces of the modified tune? I have an extended warranty and would be concerned about having it flagged. I ask because my dealer said that even adding XIED'S might void my warranty. Thanks.

The plain unvarnished truth is yes it can impact your warranty. There are those who have a dealer that turns a blind eye to modifications and then those who have a dealer which will drop a dime on you if you make modifications. Then there is the twist of your dealer may be ok with it and even do the modifications. The rub comes is if you are one who travels a great deal. You could be a couple thousand miles from home when something breaks sending you to a dealer other than your dealer. This dealer could discover the modifications and refuse warranty, plus drop a dime on you with the MoCo which will get your warranty flagged.

Warranties and modifications is a mine field, even one dealer to the next you sometimes can't get the same answer. Talking to the MoCo can also make things confusing because not all their people will give the same answer.

My dad and I used to do business with a dime dropper. Between us we bought 8 new Harley's from them along with boat loads of accessories. All it took was an arrogant new owner and a sh!t for brains new service manager to send us elsewhere.

Quoted to me years ago when I bought my 1st Harley:
Use of non-approved parts/accessories or modifications, along w/not having the work or install performed at an authorized Harley Davidson dealer MAY result in a warranty claim rejection, if said defect/failure can be attributed to the non-approved part/accessory or modification!
Haven't looked at a Harley catalog for some time but, one I had stated this and even listed some HD parts that were "not intended for highway use" and adding these parts would void the warranty!!!!

Talked this over with the owner of Old Road Harley, the closest dealer. I didn't buy the bike there and don't have any service work done there, too expensive. He told me in most cases he does warranty work regardless of mods . . . EXCEPT when the mod caused the failure. He will replace a transmission even if a tuner is installed. Other major problem is MoCo involvement. He can only authorize warranty work to a certain price point. A blown engine for instance needs MoCo approval. Sometimes the Regional Rep wants to see before he approves. No matter how buddy-buddy you are with the dealer, he has no say.

Roll the dice, take your chance.

A question for you, IF the trike is running good, and you are happy, why a tuner?? It will NOT double your horse power add torque, or make your trike a lot faster. It will cost you a couple of hundred and be 1 more electronic thing to go bad. If it doesn't fix something, why bother.

Another point is even if a dealer takes a position of it's okay if you are having a engine problem the first thing without even looking at anything else they will remove the modulator. Then they will try to fix the problem. Also they will not put it back on.

Your correct it will not double your horse power, it will however add torque. The canned tune all Harley's come with leaves power and torque on the table. A competent person with a tuner can get that power and torque, plus make the engine run smoother and cooler. If a person chooses a flash tuner they don't have to worry about "1 more electronic thing to go bad". A flash tuner doesn't stay connected to the motorcycle, it reprograms the factory ecm with the newly developed calibration and is then disconnected.

If you guy's are worried about your warranty why not just leave it stock,
Or like me just do it and worry about it later.. Chances are nothing will happen,
And if your modification caused something to fail, Why should the company pay for it...
I had my own service business, And can't tell you how many times a customer would monkey with a job I did 'then expect me to fix it on my dime.

:Agree: I really like my Power Vision and has allowed my to fine tune both of my bikes!!

If one were to reflash the bike before taking it in for service, returning it to the original tune, does the Power Vision leave a trail or digital footprint for HD to discover?

It seems no one wants to answer your question. To get an honest answer I would call Jamie at Fuel Motive, or Dyno Jet & get it from the people who built the unit, Not just a guess.

The only way you could hide your tracks is either by the ability to name the tune the exact name which is already in the ECM, or if the PV saves the factory image before you flash it. I haven't fiddled with the PV, as suggested you could call Fuelmoto who could answer the question.
