Poor Fuel Mileage?!

I have a 2023 TriGlide. Traveling at highway speeds of 65 to 70 i average about 150 to 160 miles for a 6 gallon tank. That's on average of 25 to 27 mpg. With tail winds i can get 30 to 32 mpg, 24 mpg for stiff head winds.

I have a 114 ci with a SE Stage 2 (torque cam) with SE tuner, Vance and Hines pipes. I am not heavy on the throttle, using granule acceleration up to shift points at between 2800 to 3000 rpm.

I have DK Customs wings, tank lift, oil filter relocation kit, Jagg oil cooler to control heat. With those mods the oil temps today (88* air temp) was 160*(dipstick sensor) and head temp was 295*.

Cold tire pressures are 36 front and 25 rear. It is just me on the trike. I use the trike for long distance primarily.

It seems, to me, that my fuel mileage numbers are low even by trike standards. Am considering dealing with heat some more with Jim's fan and external breather. Also a switch of Dyna Vision.

Any other suggestions for ways to improve fuel mileage?20250201_114359.jpg

On the run right now, and will be gone most of tomorrow, and all of Wednesday, but this video is a good start.

You can definitely be getting better MPG. (Your oil temp seems fine if that is after at least 45 minutes of riding)

I’ve got a 2020 Ultra Limited 114 ci converted with a Roadsmith trike kit. Woods 22XE cam, fuelmoto catless headpipe, jackpot mufflers, ac/dc air cleaner, dyno jet fuel tuner, SE aluminum intake, Iridium plugs, etc. Using Fuelmoto tune they supplied for my setup.

Bike runs exceptionally well and pulls hard through the entire RPM range. Has a crisp throttle response and a nice lopey idle. I don’t seem to notice any excessive heat.

With that said, getting 30-31 mpg with mixed riding and average to occasional moderately aggressive throttle. Even then, seems a bit low to me.

Have found a dealer down in Effingham IL that has a dyno for a trike. Was debating whether to have them try tuning it but would really hate to have them F-up how well it runs now. Thinking I may spend the money on an Aux fuel tank instead.

That does seem low.

I have a 2021 Ultra that has been converted by CSC. My tank, like yours's is 6 gals. When I fill it, it registers around 240 miles meaning an average of 40 miles per gallon. I have not touched my motor.

If on the highway, doing 70, it does indeed go dawn to say 36 or 37. When I travel to places that has ethanol free gas and I fill with that, my tank says it will go about 250 or so miles.

I have a 21 with a tune on a Power Vision and I get 26 mpg pulling a trailer and 32 is without. The trick is to keep your RPM’s at 3000 , more than that I saw a decrease in mpg but if I want to go faster I still do but I like 3k, seems like a sweet spot cruising along.

My '21 has the 117 motor and is completely stock, no change in mufflers or intake and I'm averaging between 32 and 36 mpg depending on our ride that day.
