Thought I would try this, if it doesn't hold up I can peel it off and try truck bed liner, etc. It has been on two days and about 400 miles. I have cleaned them with plain water, so far so good.

Looks good. Heard a lot about the plasti dip, haven't tried it out yet. Will be interested to hear how it works out.

I have used it on wheels- bike and trailer, forks and other parts, it's pretty tough. Good news is it only takes a minute to fix any scrap or dig.

That looks good, and it's a great idea. I'm very interested in how this works for you. I'm on the verge of doing something with my rear fenders, and I may steal this from you!

Cool idea, I just used plastic dip on the silver panels on my black 93 GW . Now its pretty much all black and chrome! I like the way it turned out.

Now that's something I hadn't thought of. Need to do something as I keep getting black scuffs on my left fender. From what I hear about it is it's easily removable if it doesn't work out.

Let us know how the clear works out. I think this stuff has lots of potential and I stink at applying the 3m stuff.

I wonder how it will work on fork lowers. I was going to powdercoat mine gloss black, but I think I'm going to try Plasticoat first. I've seen a couple of videos on line and you cant tell the close up quality from the video, but it looks pretty good. Has anyone done their lowers?

I Plastidipped my saddlebag covers on the Harley after I lost one on a ride. For now it is a lot easier and cheaper than paint, though to match I probably will get them painted this winter.
I put 5 or 6 coats on according to tips I found on line, they lood like the matte "denim" finish on some Harleys. It has held up to being dropped and by boots rubbing against them. I had some runs (my own fault) on one of them, and I just peeled the stuff off and sprayed some new coats.
I tried the clear glossifier stuff that is supposeed to make it shiny, but it seemed to collect more dust and stayed a bit sticky. Interesting stuff - you can get a few different colors in rattlecans and also comes in bulk that can be sprayed with a HVLP paint gun. The bulk is a little thinner to be sprayed with a gun and the hues can be mixed to create different colors.

How did you get the tape line to stay down?? I did mine yesterday and could not get the tape to seperate from the Plasti Dip. Other than that I think it is a great product. Went on fine and pealed of just as fine. I used the clear and it was a matt finish. looked good.

The key is to remove the tape quickly while the paint is wet and pull the tape at a sharp angle alway from the paint line. Paint up to the tape line and then spray several quick coats on the line, then pull the tape off with the paint still wet.

i would suggest just move your paint line up 1/4 to 1/2 inch and just spray in this area.

You MUST peel off the tape BEFORE the plasti-dip dries, or as you can see it WILL peel off the coating with the tape.

Or you could just coat the tires with some tire shine stuff, and THEN spray, the tire glaze stuff will not let the plastidip adhere to the tire

how many cans did you use to get your affect?
Manufacturer suggest 12 mil thick and says each coat is 2-5 mil.

Did you use the plasti dip glossifier after finishing?

Where does one usually find plasti dip retail? Autozone or something?

Thanks.

I used a can and a half. Got mine at Home Depot. Did not use the glossifier.

I like that my trike has chip from rock and that would be good to cover it up and stop more. I wonder how close that Black Cherry is to my color Cabaret Red. I got helmets that was Black Cherry and they match great Might have to just buy and hope it close

Will this stuff work on moderately hot/warm areas such as the two section valve covers on the GL1800. I just blackened out all the gray parts on my GL1800 wing with Dupli-Color flat black paint....the cowl I used Dupli-Color bedliner for a better protection from chips than the paint would offer....the valve covers I did not do, but this plasti dip could be an excellent alternative than using bedliner while offering a better covering than using paint on the valve covers provided it isn't affected from higher heat contact.
