We pretty much have our big trip for the year planned out. We'll be starting out at the Eureka Springs Trike Talk Get-Together and then traveling thru around 20 States before getting back home.

Need advice on two legs of the trip-

1. Someone (I think it was Trent) mentioned a really great road near Lee Vining in California. I even took notes on it, but I cannot find them anywhere. If anyone can help out on that it would be appreciated.

2. The other leg is between Meridian, ID and Crescent City, CA. We are looking for ideas on the best roads/most scenic route, between those two cities.

Any/all suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

Kevin

On your way west you might try running down to Mena, AR near the OK border on I-40 and riding the Talimena Scenic Drive. It's a great way to get into Oklahoma, you'll end up in Talihina, near Muskogee, east and south of OKC. The lodge at Queen Wilhelmina State Park at the east end of the parkway is worth a stop, too.

YAA—-EEEEE.... Another Kevin and Mary trip!

Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait! :biglol: :pepper:

ALL RIGHT another Kevin trip to look forward to. Enjoy and RIDE SAFE

I envy 'The Kevins' and look forward to all those fine pics.

Yeah guys! We are excited....last year we were not able to do a big trip, so this year will be all the sweeter for us.

No offense to anyone in Oklahoma...I avoid that State whenever possible. Rolled thru it 2 years ago, thinking maybe they had improved things...nope!

Great Kevin & Mary! Another one will be watching for your report & pics! :clapping:

Me too :clapping: Me too :clapping:

Hope you and Mary enjoy your time together on the road;)

199 between Grants Pass, Oregon and Crescent City, California is a pretty nice ride! The Chart Room Cafe on Anchor Wayis a good lunch stop also.

Hi-395 down the Ca/Nv border is a GREAT ride, just avoid It on the week-ends ( far to many RV'ers).

Yeah, it's gonna be a fun trip! :D

Pooch, looked at your map...thanks! Looks like a good route, depending on the weather and time, we may side track to Crater Lake also. We were there a few years back...amazing. May try out The Chart Room Cafe also.

Peter, I think the road someone mentioned to me is off of the 395...maybe a bit north of Lee Vining.

I think I may have just found it- http://www.dangerousroads.org/north-america/usa/1344-whitney-portal-road-usa.html

That will take us a bit out of our way, as we will be traveling from Felton, CA to Boulder City, NV and we did not want to cut across Death Valley.....But it looks like a challenging road with Amazing views!

From Meridian to Crescent City is difficult to determine If you’re looking for lots of scenery,Eastern Or and Southern Idaho can get boorish. You might check out 95 S from Meridian to 140 W. 140 W to Klamath Falls Or. 140 is a variety of high desert with several Mt Passes. Not traveled 95 from Meridian so don’t know bout that stretch of Hwy Travel safe keep us posted.

Hey Kevin... Ok,, Here ya go... This is the route we have done a couple of times:

From Meridian, S on Hwy 95 to Winnemucca NV. West on 80 to 95 S. Get gas in Lovelock as there in no gas till Fallon, NV. I found that out the hard way.

From Fallon, S on 95 to Hwy 359. Take 359 to Mono Lake. Then N on 395 to Hwy 108. That is Sonora Pass. That is the one!! This pass is the steepest, most amazing ride out of the 3 passes going over the backside of Yosemite. We have also been on passes Hwy 4 and Hwy 88 north of Sonora Pass. One section is a 26% grade and I was down to 2nd gear on one of the hairpins. From Sonora, work your way up historic Hwy 49 or any route and get to to Red Bluff or Redding on I-5. Either town will work. Then take Hwy 36 or Hwy 299 over to the coast. They are both awesome rides! to Eureka or Trinidad on the Coast Hwy 101. Head North to Crescent City. Then you can hit all the Redwood forests on the way up to there.

Dunno where ya wanna go from Crescent City... Crater Lake?,,, Oregon Coast?... Amazing ride... When you are here we will have you over and we will consume large quantities of meat and bourbon, and we can get into further detail. This will at least give you an idea of how to get over to the Northern Calif coast in spectacular fashion. Have ridden many many miles in that area so we can get you a great route figured out. Hope this helps,, Start planning!! and let me know if you have questions. !!!! T.

Hmmmm... Just looked at your map above.... Ok.. you are coming North from Bishop before you come to Idaho, correct? Then just north of Mono Lake is Hwy 108.. Sonora Pass... The map you have above does not even show it that I can see. Let me know! Later!

Ride through Stouts Grove. Jedediah Smith Redwood Park. Both on 199 between Grants Pass and Crescent City.

Cool! Just revised the maps...

We were already headed down 199 thru SG and JS Redwood...but have changed to 95/140, looks much better than the 20 to KF. Thank you.

Also, got Sonora Pass/108 in the route now too.

:)

Amateur traveler...haha...I don't think so! Looking forward to 108, and the 26 degree incline!

btw, Mary said she's ALL IN on the large quantities of meat and bourbon!

My philosophy is any road is a good motorcycle ride. :Coffee:

True that! :)
