Pitted rear wheels...

so I didn't put any protection on my rear wheels...washed to find after drying the rear wheels with road grime and very very dull...tired Mothers polish with home made polisher with my drill....is this common for the tri-glide wheels to look this way after a while....and is there a warranty issue that I may have a leg to stand on here???

You don't even want to know how bad my '10 TG rims got riding all year. I got a used replacement set of wheels and put 3 layers of clear coat on them. I wish they warrantied the rims. They put no protection on them at all.

I clear coated mine when they were still new. Pitting is very common on the wheels. I've not heard of anyone getting them replaced by HD on warrantee. They just say you did not clean them enough.

Same here with the wheels on my 11, Last year I got bored and had some time in my hands, So with some steal wool' and a product called Bar Keepers Friend [it contains oxaile acid] a lot of elbow grease, They looked relatively new. But after a few months, The were pitted again, probably should have clear coated them..... :(
So i just live with them, Pits and all.... Besides a clean bike is a unridden bike.....;)

Mine were a mess after 250 miles, Here's a picture of my painted wheel, the rears are in paint at the moment, should have them back on for the weekend,

Harley has been using raw aluminum rims for quite some time, the Triglide unfortunately is no exception. With the raw aluminum you have limited choices, keep polishing them, or choose paint, clear coat, powder coat or chrome.

Mine were not pitted, but were "spotted" - looks like water spots. I tried EVERY POLISH AND A BUNCH OF OTHER STUFF - no help. I was going to get them chromed, but since no plater would give a decent warrantee against salt damage (I ride all winter in Chicago area) I decided to just buy the H-D Anarchy wheels. Then I would use the stock wheels in the winter and change them in the summer. Yes it was a bit expensive, but what else you gonna spend SS checks on? :)

For years I used, and still do now, S100 Corrosion Protectant. Works like a miracle. On my 2012 TG I thought I'd try H-D's new "Bare Aluminum Protectant" on the wheels. DON'T USE IT!!! Worst $hit I've ever used - didn't work. If I would have only used S100 I probably wouldn't have had to buy new wheels. Oh Well - live and learn.

Before I bought the Anarchy wheels, I also bought a set(3) of new wheels on E-Bay to get chromed. Didn't do it.
So if someone is looking for a brand new, never seen the light of day, set of OEM TG wheels, I have a deal for you. ThumbUp :pepper: :D

As stated, that's the way they are.

With the right polish, and a lot of elbow grease, they will come clean and smooth. They will look great til the next time you ride.

I was going to powder coat mine, but am now looking at doing some Hydrographics on them.

Here's a picture of my rear wheels now I've had them painted, no more unnecessary polishing, I already have enough to polish ;)

Man, those look great, especially with that trike color! I tried everything under the sun on my 2011 wheels and finally got tired of it. Sent them off to Willy Shiny and now have chrome wheels. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Look great and cleaning is a snap.

I wash off the the brake pad's dust and road grims then put on a good coat of S100 Detail and Wax on the wheels. I never had a problems. I have used S100 Corrosion Protectant in the past, but stopped using it since the Detail and Wax works. This is part of my cleaning routine.
