I had a guy pull up to me at a light ( was not even a 2 lane stop.) He rolls down the window on is 10 year old Toyota Corolla and says my wife wants me to get one of them . How much? I wanted to say 3 times what you pair for the piece of s_%^*- you are driving. I just looked and him and said " A Lot."

I know what you mean John. I would never ask someone that. I am asked what my trike cost often and have never given an answer.

Gee why don't you want to share that information? I am happy to let them know what I have in my ride. They may really be looking to get into the sport. Yes most are just curious but what harm is there in telling them?

He sounds like he may be on the path to being able to lay the cash down for a new trike. With years of no car payment, he is much more likely to have the money. Have you ever listened to Dave Ramsey? He would probably say none of us should have such expensive toys. I have also been asked what I paid for my trike. My wife loves it when I tell them a ridiculous number like $100,000. You should see the look on their face!

I generally give em' a "From here to here"...just depends on the Brand, Make, and Model, and Your ability to "Cut a Deal"......next usually comes Yes They are kinda' pricey, but what have You bought lately that isn't, and this is the most Fun Thing I've paid too much for by far......

As a follower of the Dave Ramsey system,I would strongly disagree on the "expensive toy" comment. As long as you pay cash for your toys,there is nothing wrong with having anything you desire.

I don't hesitate for a second when I am asked what ours cost.

I always believed it was rude to ask someone what they paid for something. Still do.

Most people that ask me, aren't asking exactly how much I have in my trike, they just want a ballpark figure. If they seem really interested or thinking about getting into triking, it doesn't bother me to answer them.
I don't, however, tell them I paid $15384.27, or where I got it, but I don't mind telling them that a new one like mine is in the neighborhood of $25,000 and with some careful shopping and buying used, you can get one like mine in the $16,000 range.
I've been asked what a house like mine costs, or how much a car like mine is worth, and how much it costs to own a golf cart like mine. Legitimate questions from people who are wanting to get into that situation. Shoot, everything I own is for sale, and I'll be happy to put a price on it for you.

Be nice. I always share information with people when they show an intrest in my Goldwing and want one like it. By sharing information and passing on one of the builder's business cards to the individual, you allow his business to grow and you put another happy trike owner on the road.

I think that people are just curious. Many haven't an idea what we are talking about when it comes to Trikes. I always just tell them Between $40,000 & $50,000 depending on how you like it1

I've never had a conversation start with "how much?" It ususally starts with what is that? or how fast does it go? If a conversation progresses to the how much question, by that time i'm thinking a person might be seriously wondering. I don't really have a problem sharing costs, but like others have said, I usually give them a range between what I paid for my 2008 spyder (used) to what the new decked out touring 2010s may cost. Then although I bought mine out of state, I usually refer them to the closest local dealer.

i must agree with john and rowdy. it's rude to ask how much you've paid for anything. if that person is truly interested in buying, it's not hard to find prices in today's world. everyone has access to prices, whether or not they own a computer.

Either they'll say "Is that all?" and seriously look for themselves at some point, or they'll say "That much!!", and the conversation will end shortly thereafter.

I'm pretty much with you -- if they get to that point after lots of questions, they are thinking already & I'll give them the ballpark.
But - If that's the first question, they aren't that interested they are just plain nosey!

I have people ask me how much my trike costs and I tell them. I figure that they are interested and they usually are very nice about it and give me a complement on how good the bike looks. Ken
