At the front of this month I posted new thread "Dangeroud Times" concerning riding in today's environment. Keeping things even I thought I would go another direction. What good thing has happened to you or others while traveling this Country? For me one quick
memory jumps out: Riding out of Black Hills back to Rapid City in 1998 on Dyna my air cleaner came off and became a juggling act to hold cleaner against knee while trying to get shut down and not lose too many parts. As I
finally got stopped off road & before I had a chance to check problem another bike with a couple stopped to see if they could help. With
a little wire they had I was able to temp tie things together and limp into town to get it repaired. Total amount time lost: 15 minutes.
Try that in a car. This is just one instance of several that come to mind.
Bikers do care. Can't always say that about drivers.

UNCLE WILLIE

My wife and I got on the trike to take a ride and only got about 2 miles out of town when we seen a bike ( Harley) broke down. I pulled over, he said an axil bearing had burned out. He also had only been there only about 5 minutes before we had stopped. Well, no way we can even get parts, let alone fix it on a Sunday, so I told him that I would get my truck and borrow a trailer to get him home. He lived 45 miles away. 30 minutes later we loaded up the bike and headed for home. But what surprised me was during the time that I was gone, nobody stopped! I have tried to help people for most of my life. If my wife and kids were with me it would depend on the situation. I think it is just because of the volunteer spirit I have always had.

My wife and I were on the recieving end of help a few years back when we experienced a rear tire blowout at speed. We got it off the road without going down (even though I was having flashbacks of watching the same thing happen to my Dad years earlier which end in him laying it down when his passenger froze up on him)... kudos to my wife for riding it out with me!

We bearly got off the road when we had an SUV turn around and come back to check on us. The driver was a rider too and said when he saw my headlight going back and forth he knew what was going on and was hoping he didn't find us laying on the road. He went and got his trailer and took us home leaving his trailer with me to take my bike to have the rear tire taken care of. He had a cooler with cold beverages (water, soda and beer) for us on our way back to our house. When I returned the trailer I had a case of his brand of beer as a thank you even though he didn't want anything other than for us to pay it forward next time we saw a fellow biker in a fix.

We paid it foward a few months later when we had a biker go down a few cars in front of us while we were traveling in our truck. The vehicles behind him just swerved and past him by. He was surprised when we stopped and made sure he was ok and even had my wife help pick up his bike. After we got him taken care of we told him the same thing... just pay it forward. That is the biker's code.
