oil from factory

I got a quart of engine oil from the dealer today. I use a white paper towel. I put a sample of syn3 on the towel. I put a sample of the oil I got from the dealer on the towel. I took a sample of the oil from the engine. The sample from the engine was dark. The others were a light color. I assume the engine oil was darker because it was used from normal engine running. Is that correct? Just want to make sure. I only need about 1/2 quart. If that much.

That sounds right to me, the darker color means it is doing the job suspending the dirt and wear
