I guess my next bike will be a Honda Goldwing. I just got off the phone with Harley in Milwaukee and they refused to help me. I am trying to paint my inner fairing to match my bike. I just paid $32,000.00 for a new trike in the Black Magic color and cant get any help with the paint code from anyone. My painter is going to paint the inner for $230.00 as opposed to buying one from Harley for almost $700.00. I'm done with Harley after all these years unless someone on here can help me.

Your HD dealer/parts dept have all the paint codes in their (secret) parts book....that's where I got the paint codes when repainting the tour lid on my '09 TG.

Any time the local dealer wants to paint anything they order the paint from MOCO. Damn expensive. !!!
A good custom paint man should be able to match close enough you wouldn't be able to see the difference.
I have heard the people that make their paint are under contract to never give out the code or sell the paint to anyone but Harley.

A PPG paint supplier might be able to come up with a code.

Yes, they do. You just need to find a different dealer....... Actually, this is why I decided a long time ago to buy in one color....VIVID BLACK..... Virtually no hassles when it comes to sticking with Harley's base color....

But, what really kills me here is that most professional paint shops do this research themselves and don't put it on the buyer......

I understand your desire here; I think you just need to try more avenues to get a bigger picture of your options.

Any good paint shop can match the color almost 100% and I bet some shops even have all the Harley paint codes. ThumbUp

You can also buy touch up paint in different sizes from the dealer. That's where I bought mine.

Can't imagine giving up owning a great bike JUST BECAUSE you can't get the correct paint code. Sounds like you just want an excuse to buy something else. :Shrug:
Personally I don't want a highly reflective surface staring back at me

Just curious - does Honda give out their motorcycle paint codes? I don't know.

Lots of Body Shops, and Auto Parts Stores can "scan" paint now, and computer match a COLOR ......might try this...GOOD LUCK.....ThumbUp

ThumbUp THIS IS TRUE. had to send my side cover to motor trike to have the trike body "computer color matched" can not tell the difference between original tin and trike body .

Yeah, actually my 2014 CB1100 has the paint code on a sticker attached to the frame under the seat.

Harley dealers lying? Really (lol).....find another dealer. When I had my tour lid painted by a paint shop in Boise, I went to my local HD dealer....parts dept looked up the paint code....wrote it down and I took to the paint shop. The sales mgr has a cabinet full of touch-up paint bottles (small ones) and got the paint code there also!

Could be something called "aggravation". What happened to customer courtesy? It's all in the choices we make, or willing to make.

Harley custom paint is actually a 2 color process. You have the base color and the top coat color.
My Mysterious Red Sunglow touch up kit is 2 bottles. You have to build a nick up with the base color so that you put just a thin layer of top color coat on it.

I agree that any good shop can do a color match that would be suitable for an inner fairing paint job.

Buying from HD you are going to need the proper base coat color and top coat color .... NOT JUST ONE.

I also wanted a bit more dash bling .... This worked for me!

Black color is the same as what GM has on their vehicles , when I painted my inner fairing , I went to a dealer other than the one in my area and I was given both codes / 2 tone colors and color code for the pin stripe .

Hey Joelin,
I have a friend and a fewothers I know that went in and asked for the code as they wanted some touch up paint and they were told they had to order a pint or they couldn't order the paint.
IMO you maybe able try the same thing there where you're at.

I bought a touch up paint kit (base coat and top color coat) for my 2014 Mysterious Red Sunglow from my HD dealer 98601DSW ($36.15 + tax)

The trim around my gauges is 2014 CVO Upper Inner Fairing Trim 61400122A . I was told by multiple sources that I could not get it ... but I did. epper: For 2015 there is a carbon fiber trim piece available.

I don't care what color it is, if my painter couldn't color match it without me giving him the factory color code, I'd be looking for another painter to do the job.

I don't think a body shop painter is going to match that black magic paint and flake.
When my wifes trike was done the builders painter couldn't get anyone to match the pearl yellow for the fenders. He worked at a big body shop. Finally had to buy a pint from harley. Expensive but perfect match.
They have to sell paint for repairs. Buy a pint of black magic and take to a body shop.
I'm telling you, I have a black magic triglide and no body shop is going to match that .
