Hi Folks when I bought the venture trike there was a digital speedometer fitted, I didn't think much about it at the time, on closer inspection the original one is still in place it lights up and fuel gauge works, the speedo does not work and the total miles is stopped at 18,600.
I asked the previous owner why another digital speedo was fitted and he tried to explain that the original speedo was connected to the rear motorbike wheel and when converted to a trike it was not possible to connect to a trike axle, I asked could it not have been re-routed to the front wheel? he said NO but gave no reason why not? I would very much appreciate any help on this folks, I love the retro style speedo on the trike and would love to get it all running properly.ThumbUp
All the equipt to drive the speedo in inside the rear third member and there is no place to put such stuff in the front hub. It isn't just a a drive gear box such as used to be seen on older bikes. Now as I was typing this I thought if you already have replacement digital speedometer can you hook that drive up to the original RSV speedometer? If it is not accurate then get a Speedo Healer and adjust it until right.
And BTW welcome to the group. This is a great group. Do you have any information on the build of your trike,it looks quite different.

Hello Paul Many thanks for your help, Yes your Idea is well worth investigating, I will let you know how I get on. My trike is a home make conversion using a 1999 Yamaha Royal star Venture and the independent rear suspension off a 1990 Jaguar car. She is very heavy at the front and hard to turn, I have recently widened the handlebars which is a big improvement, also thinking of a narrower front tyre, and maybe lowering the front forks 10mm, also fitting a pair of K&N air filters which speeds her up a wee bit. I have a few other bits to do and will post some pic's shortly Thanks again for your help Cheers Angela :Coffee:ThumbUp
welcome to the site. i have been a member for at least 72....hours lol. i am sure you will find lots of stuff to read and look at. i myself am waiting a few months to trade my 2 wheeler for a 3 wheeler....can't wait to get out on the road
So in looking at your bike picture it appears that you already have a narrower tire/wheel on the front then a standard RSV. I think that the problem with your steering is that you don't have enough rake in the steering head. See what you can do about moving the rake out 4 to 6 degrees. Talk to the people over at Hedingham Sidecars. I would either see if they can make you a set of raked triple trees or a leading link front end.
