Afternoon all.
New member to the board and looking forward to gleaming mucho info. My first, and last motorcycle was a Honda CB350 that I bought back in 1975 and rode for about a year and half. That was the last time I have been on a MC. Now that I'm orlder and wiser? I am having an advanced midlife crisis and want to purchase a trike. Like the idea of the third wheel. Currently looking at a 2008 Harley Davidson-Lehman Trike TRI-GLIDE. Has real low mileage and is in excellent condition. Can't wait to ride again!

Welcome aboard. Glad you joined us. Not to be critical but HD did not sell the first TRI-Glide until 2009. The first 2 years of the TRI were a sub-contract to Lehman to install the rear section but this was a HD design not a Lehman. 2011 the TRI construction moved to the YORK HD plant for a total HD construction. If thr trike you are looking at is titled a 2008 it is NOT a TRI, but a HD with a Lehman conversion. Post some pictures of it and let us know what the price is we can tell you if it's a good deal or not. Mileage?

Tri

Totally agree with Gorilla - get some additional info,

Thanks for the clarification. I should have acknowledged that is was a conversion. Still getting used to all the terms of the build. This is the info I received from the owner

"2008 Electra Glide with Lehman “Renegade” rear.
Twin Cam 96 cubic in. (1584 CC), 6 speed, cruise control, Security Alarm, Advanced Audio System (AM, FM, CD, Aux. Input for MP3’s), Cig. Lighter, Battery Tender connector, Rush Tru-Dual Pipes (sounds awesome), New front brakes, Inspection good thru 7/16, Paint: Pacific Blue Pearl, Blue LED ground effects lights. Decked out in Willie G. skull chrome to include: Nose Light, Visors on Light tree, Hand Grips, All upgraded floorboards, Highway Pegs, Derby Cover, Points Cover, Shifter Lever, Brake Pedal, Trunk Badge, EVEN the Valve Stem Covers. Heated garage kept. 6,711 ORIGINAL miles."

I don't even know yet what a lot of the stuff is. Learning. Lucky for me my son is a LEO with a motors unit and owns an Electra Glide.

Thanks. The Blue Goose II 003.jpgThe Blue Goose II 007.jpg

pictures look good. Mileage is outstanding except there is factors about not ridden enough. I would say in the mid teens for a price.

If you like it try and get it down as much as possible. Bottom line the price is what someone is willing to pay.

Seller is asking $20K. Not ridden much due to health problems. It did pass inspection last year.

Have it checked out by a Lehman dealer or a shop that knows about trikes before purchase, There are hidden things that could bite you.

It's worth the money to have it checked out, Nice low mileage and looks good from here!

the difference between a good trike and a bad one depends entirely on the integrity of it's builder!

ThanksPCombe.

Some good points. Problem with having it checked out by a Lehman dealer is there are none here in NC. Closest is 2 1/2 hours away. Will also check with Lee H to see what I should look for when I see the trike Saturday.

You might make it a post on the forum to the NC. membership asking for a reputable trike knowledgeable shop?

To get an idea of what you might look for you could go online and download the installation manual for the trike kit?

Axle and Belt alignment, condition, tension etc. could tell you allot about the bike and how it's been maintained etc. Torque values on bolts and fasteners are important also.

The truth of the matter is that the person who built it and the one who turns wrenches on it are critical to how safe and trustworthy your trike is.
If it's done right I wouldn't worry too much about it.
It doesn't have enough miles on it to be too bad anyway!
If nothing else a shop can insure belt/axle alignment and check torque values and that would be worth it.
If your at all handy with a wrench you can do it yourself without a whole lot of trouble.
The trouble with trikes is that maintaining them scares people and it shouldn't. Most is common sense.
If you download the instruction manual it will give torque values and I suggest you buy the official Harley Davidson or whatever make the trike is motor manual to have for reference.

If you google- pcombe library/photobucket you can pull up pictures of my build and get allot of info on what you should look for?
Mine is a champion kit but you will likely see some real similarities in design.
