Hi, I am joining trike talk to learn about trikes. I've ridden 2 wheels thus far, but my husband just wouldn't ride with me for fear of being injured. After some seed planting on my part and long thinking on his part, he has agreed to some back road and Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway rides. He would feel more protected on a trike, so I am now looking into buying one.

I must admit, that I have chosen to ride a Burgman 650 and a Ridley Autoglide most recently, so I'm a bit rusty on my clutching. I would love for Honda to introduce the double clutch transmission in the Goldwing for 2013. That would be a dream come true. Otherwise, I'll either have to get real and relearn or consider the Pengel push button electric gear changer. Anybody have experience with those? Downshifting looked kinda rough.

I have a lot to learn and am looking forward to the process. Thanks for being a resource in the internet wilderness!

Welcome to TrikeTalk, Madonna! You've come to the right place to get your questions answered. We do have several members who use the Pingel shifter, and best I can tell they like it a lot. I'm sure some will jump in here and tell you the pros and cons.

Hello Madonna, welcome to the Forum. As Nana said, you've come to the right place. This Forum had some of the friendliest and knowledgeable people I have seen in a long time. I'm sure you will get informational responses soon to your questions. I think the Trike is the right solution for your situation so when you find the right one, enjoy it to the fullest. There are threads in this Forum that address some of what you are looking for. For example, the difference between riding a two wheeler vs. a Trike. Good Luck...

First of all, welcome to the Forum, Madonna. I also had a Ridley Auto Glide, but soon traded it in on a Trike. Have you taken the MSF course or did you get your endorsement at DMV on the Auto Glide and or Burgman? The course will teach you how to use the clutch and shifting. Once I had to use the actual shifting on my trike, I love it so much more. You have a lot of control when you can stop the power from the rear wheels. I feel so much safer. Maybe you could take a refresher course if you are rusty.

Good luck on what you decide and again....welcome!

Welcome aboard. Glad you joined us. There is a couple of companies that trike the Burgman 650. One is a sponcer for this forum "Trinity Trike"

Madonna, welcome to the best darn trike forum on the internet. Like Gorilla said, you might considered triking out your Burgman with a "Trinity Trike" kit.

Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome. I've got LOTS to learn about trikes and I certainly feel like I am in the right place. Once I find a bike, I sure wouldn't mind finding a teacher! I think the local Goldwing club teaches those from time to time. I'll certainly join once I own one.

I took the MSF class about 20+ years ago but knew how to drive a standard transmission car before that - very different skill set but some knowledge about clutching helped. I'd say it may be as long as 10 years since I've been on a "regular" bike.

I just discovered the Burgman trike yesterday. It would be great for me, but John would feel too exposed, I think. The way the Goldwing trikes are built, the passenger is practically in a little cacoon - that is a positive from his perspective. I've never been on such a large machine, but I'm hoping having it triked makes it more managable. No way I'd be able to handle it with only the two wheels!

My dream would be for the 2013 Goldwing to come with semi-auto transmission. I would place an order for a Motortrike 2013 at the drop of a hat if that were to happen! Keeping my fingers crossed, but the cost is something awful (gulp).

Thanks again, everybody. I'm sure to have many more questions.
