Hey KindaOldTriker the backrest should go down far enough that the passenger can get on an off fairly easly. I installed Dennis tour pack relocation kit moves tour pack back and up. Wife likes it alot gives her more room.

The HD kit will fold down flat on other models, but not on this seat! I thought it would until installed and was disappointed! It folds a bit forward but if you pushed it it would tear the seat stitching. i'm not going to invest in another brand. Not sure how much wife will ride on the rear but I can surely see an advantage to moving the tour pack back some.

Greetings from So. Cal. Wife and I both ride trikes. Cancer took her off her Deluxe, Heart surgery got me off my Ultra. We got her an new '11, I ride her old '09. Both are near bone stock. The '09 is pushing 35,000 miles, the 11 15,000. We ride year round and have toured most of the western states. We would both be on 2 wheels if health allowed, the trikes are a great alternative to rocking chairs. I'm 67, she is 60.
