Need some help

Hey guys, I have a 2011 Tri Glide. The other day my wife and I rode for about 45 minutes no problems. We got back, I turned it off went inside for about an hour and when I came back to leave it wouldn't crank. I bought an extended warranty which will cover it but I called and it will be two weeks before they can look at it. Just trying to find some things to check on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated. my old bike was a 94 road king, I am new to all the electronics and computerized stuff.

Couple things.

Battery in key fob ,, Make sure is in Neutral ,, or hold clutch & brake in all the way. .. Master fuse ,,. dead battery. ,, good luck

Jerry, As was already pointed out, if you have a fob, check or replace that battery first

Do you have a volt meter?

If you do hook it up to the battery and see what it reads

If you have less than 12.5 volts hook up as charger

Fully charged should be 12.7 volts

With the volt meter hooked up, turn the ignition on

Observe the volt reading, if it drops to 10.5 volts and continues to drop during cranking you are looking at a bad battery

Jerry,

Welcome to TT. What Bill said. At one time I rode my bike over 300 miles and shut it off for the day. Tried to restart it and it was like there was no battery. I had absolutely nothing! I really thought someone had stolen the battery. But that was not the case. These relatively small bike batteries can die without warning. Good luck..... Jim

Thought about the battery. I bought a new battery, same thing,. A friend told me about the battery in the fob, tried that. still the same problem.

Next step, check all your fuses, if you have absolutely no power, pull the main fuse and look at it real close, clean the connections and reinstall it

If you have a test light, check the main lug on the starter. If your test light lights up you are getting battery voltage there

You will then need to check the ignition and run switch

Had that happen to a friend. We rode to the place we stopped to eat. When we got done, bike wouldn't start, and screwdriver across the poles of the battery yielded nothing, nada, zip. I took him to a wal-mart where he bought a new battery, installed it, and rode away....

YMMV

Have you checked the kill switch?

I have fallen victim to that little booger several times... I panic when the bike won’t start... then cooler heads prevail and point out that I accidentally bumped the stupid kill switch. Put back in “run” position and VROOOMM!!!!! Whew!

Thanks

Jerry

You said in another post, that it was turning over, so only other thing I can think of is no spark (bad coil) or Crank Position Sensor. That happened to me years ago . I just kept cranking & it finally started. I did check to make sure plugs were firing. It also did it every time I turned it off, till I got to a dealer. Let us know what you finally do to fix. Luck

Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for all the help. The bike is up and running again. I pulled the plug wires off, found I was getting fire on both of the plug wires. I pulled the plugs out, they looked good. I took a piece of cardboard and slid it back and forth in the gap of the spark plugs. I installed one plug and wire, It cranked right up on one cylinder. I installed the other plug and wired and it fired off. I shut it down and it cranked back up. Go figure. I am going to buy a new set of plugs and see what happens. Will keep you posted.
