I have a 2006 sporster 1200L with 10 thousand miles on it. I am having trouble with oil blowing out of the air cleaner. After about 150 miles the side of the bike is covered with oil. We have tryed running it a 1/2 quart low on oil that did not help. So we put on a big sucker air cleaner that helped, not as much oil on the side of the bike but still there. Not sure what next the bike runs great and no smoke out the tale pipe.

I would assume (may be a bad thing) that the vapor return is the same as the Twinkies. On the rocker support brackets, there are 2 tiny holes that allow oil vapor to return to the intake and burn up, which is how it's designed. Some people have drilled these pinholes out to as much as 1/8". I've heard 3/64 and #43. Theory is, the pinholes don't allow enough vapor to get through, allowing it time to liquify, which then drips into the air cleaner. Enlarging the holes allows more vapor to get where it's supposed to.

As a stop gap, get a feminine disposable napkin and put it inside the air cleaner. Change every time you do an oil change.
