Mounting fenders

Looking for suggestions on how/where to mount fiberglass vendors on my trike. For instance - is it a good idea to mount directly to the axle? Is there pre-fabricated mounting kits available. This kit sits on a 1967 VW Beetle.

looks great without fenders! Mounting directly to the axle is not good, but with some isolating type of mountings maybe possible....mounting to the chassis is best. my .02

You have the right idea of mounting to the axel housing because the tire and axel will move together (I think). Maybe someone will send a photo of his mounting procedure or flip through the VW site here...
