Any of you use 10w 40 full synthetic in your goldwing? Can you tell any differance from the 10w 30? Thanks

Yes... Have used Amsoil 10W40 full synthetic since the first oil change. It's far superior lubricating quality compared to petroleum based oil. I also extend my oil change time based on Amsoil's advise.

Can I ask why you are using 10W30 oil? Unless you live in the arctic (don't think so) that is way too light. You might want to bump that up a notch.....

The manual recommends 10W40 (one place does indicate 10W30 is acceptable) and I even know some that use 20W50 in very hot climates.

I use
amsoil in a few of my bikes but I use the Honda Dyno oil in my Goldwings. The only reason is according the owners/service manual you change the oil at 8,000 miles with Amsoil you change at 10,000 miles. I feel that this is to many miles before changing a oil filter. The bikes I use with Amsoil oil I change the filter at 5,000 miles and top off. Most of the time I change at 6-7,000 miles with a new filter.
Amsoil is good oil, it has improved the gear clunk, shifts smoother, and the engine runs cooler.
Not saying Amsoil is not good for 10,000 as they say I just think that is pushing things when it comes to the oil filter.
Just because this is what I do doesn't make it right or wrong.
If I remember correctly the graph shows the temperature range for both the 10w-30 and the 10w-40

Thanks everyone for your replies. A friend of mine who has worked at a honda dealership for 8 years as a mech says honda reccommends 10w 30. I know people who uses 10w-40 so I was just curious as to what others did. Seems like after talking with different honda owners, that it really comes down to a differance of opinion .

I have an 07 and the owners manual said 10/30.
I have used AmsOil since the 2nd oil change andnow have about 37,000 miles.

I use Shell Rotella 5w-40 in the blue bottle. Was a recommendation on the Steve Saunders Goldwing forum and the GWRRA forum (used to lurk there before they closed it down to only members). I know there are a few TT members that use the stuff, too. I don't go strictly by mileage for oil changes - also use feel, smell and color. I always do a change before our annual family/Davis Rally trip to the north in September, and I cut up the filter. Haven't seen anything bad so far. Shifts really smooth, runs well and a gallon is about $18.00 at our local WallyWorld. YMMV on price due to taxes and local pricing.
