Missing Part

2010 MotorTrike Adventure Kit installed with Aquashields on 2005 GL 1800. Had to have a new Pinion seal installed. Came home with BIG holes immediately aft of my passenger floor boards.....BOTH sides. Try to attach a picture. Dealer said he did NOT remove ANY parts. These holes were NOT there prior to this install.

I hate to be the barer of unwanted news (maybe it's good news) but that open area is on all MotorTrike Adventure conversions. You must not have noticed it before is all.. <br />
<br />
Hope that restored confidence in your dealer. <img src="images/smilies/poof.gif" border="0" alt="" title="poof" class="inlineimg" /><br />

</div>Alright, I went and looked again..... The OP's photo looks exactly like my '06 with aqua shields.

Jerry
I don't know fore from aft.
Never been on a boat nor intend to.
But if a 2010 is different then an 06 I don't know that either.
Here is my right rear view.

Heres the front.

The area the OP is concerned about it just to the rear of the passenger foot rests. There is a space there where we can look down onto the top of the muffler.

</div>NO HARM - NO FOUL.... It's amazing the little things we get use to seeing but not registering. I had to walk out to the shop twice before I understood what I was looking for.<br />

Well, I guess it <u>COULD</u> be that this hole has been there for over three years and I never saw it??? I clean my Trike after <u><b>EVERY</b></u> ride and there was never any road crap up on the fender near the hole. Now, I ride it home from the pinion seal install and I got all kinds of crap up on the fender on both sides. <br />
I am NOT going to put up with all this junk flying up on my fender after every ride. I am going to come up with something to plug that ugly hole. Hard to believe that MotorTrike designed this ugly hole in that place on purpose?????<a href="http://www.triketalk.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=16908&d=1386040628" title="Name: 03-Good View Cover On.JPG

</div>I sure don't pretend to be an engineer but I'd guess that opening is to allow the exhaust pipe heat to escape some without frying the fiberglass. Without the heat shields I imagine it gets pretty warm there... Just my guess.... <img src="images/smilies/poof.gif" border="0" alt="" title="poof" class="inlineimg" />

There is a small shoulder bolt in the trim piece that is just about the "hole." I cut a piece of heavy stair tread and used that shoulder bolt to hold it in place. Because of the curvature of the hole, it still has a small vent hole in the area if it needs to release some heat......which I doubt because it is too far from the shielded exhaust pipe.
Now looks MUCH better and almost looks OEM.

Re: Missing Part.

I realize this thread is about 7 months old, but perhaps someone can use this information. That hole is on all the original muffler shields from a two wheeled goldwing. It was there for the crash bars in front of the saddle bags. These bars are removed and tossed when a conversion is done. Some conversions hide the tail end of this shield under the part of the fibreglass that covers the muffler or tail pipe. There is a chrome one made without that cutout on it available from csc for about $65. Maybe available other places also. Sure does make that area behind the pass foot boards look nicer though. Just my 2 cents worth
