Loud Pipes on a GL1500 trike

Here's what mine looks like. You could go with bigger pipes or even a tad longer and you would get a lower exhaust note.

I have a 1500 with MT conversion. Have no Idea what mufflers or pipes I have, as they came installed with the kit, and I did not think to ask. However, When I crank her up in the shed, She has a small sound, and when I am going down the road, there is just enough rumble to hear her while we go. Love them, but I have no info. Just one of those lucky "dumb" "ignorant" dogs. :Shrug::cool:
 
If you want a LOUD trike , get a Harley.

Why would I want a Harley, I've got a Road Star. And it has baffled V&H power shot pipes on it.
The GL is just a smooth and even sound. My neighbor has the exact same set up on his, he got the idea from me, and when he passes by my house I can't even hear him motoring by.
 
Well I do twist the throttle when I ride by. Just to let him know I am out riding and he isn't!:D

Now don't get the idea that the pipes are loud I'd call them smooth. I've ridden behind loud motorcycles and hate it and I've ridden many miles behind CyberVet65 and have no complaints. There is resonation between the two 6 cylinders engines but that is not noise.
 
Just sold a 2002 Triumph America... when I bought it about 2 years ago and drove it home from Oklahoma, it had a VERY expensive set of LOUD aftermarket pipes (slip ons actually at about $600!). It was so annoyingly loud for a bike that underpowered that I immediately traded for a set of new looking take off stock mufflers. Everyone in the Bonny forum group told me I was an old man and a sissy. I like quiet bikes! I also rebuild vintage Japanese motorcycle carburetors for a living and have a chance to tune/road test them. If the airbox is stock with a "high flow" K&N and aftermarket pipe (4 into 1 in most cases), there is a slight power increase if jetting is spot-on. The claims made earlier in this thread are obviously not based on 1st hand knowledge. The power increase is slightly noticeable over a stock exhaust and intake. Pod air filters increase the power a very small amount BUT there are other issues such as surging from side winds, etc. and the potential for rain and over-oiling (for oiled such as K&N). If you just change pipes, there isn't really much need of rejet if there are baffles in the mufflers in most cases. I have never seen an exhaust for a vintage Jap bike (such as a GS or KZ) that flowed that much better than a stock set of pipes that it required rejet. They may be out there but I haven't experienced it.

Load pipes do not save lives. That is just juvenile thinking. You'll have to come up with a better excuse. The person turning left in front of you cannot hear your pipes. Never could, never will. You cannot hear load pipes until they are along side you unless they are on the gas. I have load pipes on my 2 wheel Suzuki Volusia because I like the sound. OEM Suzuki just sounds sick. Not real load, just a nice rumble. My buddy rides a Goldwing trike and I just love how quiet it is. He can listen to the radio without bothering me! If I could quiet my 2 wheeler like a Goldwing I'd do it in a NYM

AGREED! No matter how many times you shout it from the rooftops or print it on a T-shirt simply doesn't make it so. And I have never seen a published study that upheld the theory. It is simply noise pollution. The longer one rides with loud pipes, the worse the hearing becomes and the louder the pipes have to be for the now hearing-impaired rider just to know his bike is running and to keep the testosterone level up.
 
Running at 110 Hp on a 1200 lb machine you would not feel a 10 Hp drop in HP. Dyno proved it. And I Agree. There is no noise in front of an on coming loud motorcycle. I will keep mine quiet. There is more to it than just changing the mufflers. Once you screw with back pressure u have to fool with input. ( jetting or mapping. ) you could end up needing a valve job sooner than if you left it alone.
 
When your riding down the street with loud pipes, People turning around and looking at you aren't thinking .

Instead there thinking what an ''A'' hole and those bikes should be outlawed!
Loud pipes lose rights....
