Looking at a first Trike

I'm looking at a 2003 GL1800 with a California Sidecar Trike conversion. It has running boards, heel toe shifter, 24K miles, priced at $14,500. Was CSC what Honda puts on their trike conversions when new ? Is a heel toe shifter problematic as it is on the GL1500 ? Any opinions in general about that year bike, the trike kit, pricing, gas mileage for trikes, any known issues with transmission or driveline, etc., any and all comments are welcome. Thanks

Welcome To Trike -Talk Jerry.......:wave4:

And Honda Does Not put any Trike Conversion on their Bikes....

Separate manufactures do, Not Honda.....

Hi Jerry,:wave4:

First, :welcome: to the Trike Talk Family.:wave4:

Nice looking trike.ThumbUp

What year was the CSC conversion kit manufactured and installed?

Was the installation performed by a reputable CSC certified installer?

Are accurate service records available for the motorcycle and the conversion kit?

Beautiful trike. CSC is great conversion. 1800 wing is very strong and reliable. Installer and maintenance are paramount. Good miles on it and if all features on trike are in good working condition with normal wear for yr model the price is close,in my unprofessional opinion :wave4:

Hello and welcome to TrikeTalk.

That's a nice one, like the color.

Possibly converted by Trikes by design out of Inverness.

Welcome to Trike Talk Jerry! That is a nice looking trike! CSC make a good trike conversion. It'll be a nice ride!

Jerry welcome aboard. Price sounds good. I concure with all the other members have posted. Also not sure if the 2003 had a frame recall or just the 2002. I would check on that.

Jerry, welcome to a GREAT forum!

Honda makes a FANTASTIC motorcycle.

cSc makes a GREAT trike kit.

At 24000 miles it is still New.

Go for it! :)

Ride safe,

Gideon

High loads created when riding on rough road surfaces or through potholes can cause the affected welds to crack. This recall affects the entire Gold Wing 1800 line from 2001-2004. ... American Honda is conducting a Safety Recall on some 2002-2003 GL1800/A Gold Wings to reinforce frame welds.

Hope it helps

CSC is a very good conversion kit. You can't go wrong. It's not broke in yet. Honda does not sell new trikes. They must be converted. Harley is the only manufacturer selling a complete trike.

you know the year of the bike, now you need to know the year of the KIT.

the reason I say this is because about 6 years ago, most if not ALL if the trike manufacturers started putting narrower tires on their kits.

an older kit will still have the wider ones on it.

Now they are putting narrower tires to avoid hydroplaning and wet weather handling
