LED tail light bulbs

Has anybody installed a set of the LED bulbs in their stock tail lights, these are the ones with the 1157 base and a cluster of LEDs. Just wondering if they are an improvement over the stock 1157s. THANKS ! ! !

I have installed LED bulbs on my '87 Harley. I had them in last season for my wife, and I am going back to the old bulbs for this season. I just don't feel the LEDs are as bright in the old style housing. In my opinion, LED lights engineered as LEDs work great, but conversions are not worth the money.

Love my BAL LED taillights! Bright Ass Lights keep me noticed. I have had numerous cagers stop next to me and tell me they can see me from a long way away!

I just installed a set of LED tail lights from HD. They are made specifically for the TriGlide and come with a new heat sink / load controller module that replaces the existing one under the seat. With the new load controller in place, I also replaced the bulbs in the front turn signals with some LED bulbs from Radiantz. Everything works great.

I agree with the opinion that the after market 1157 led lights just don't seem to be as bright as the regular bulbs... Could be a problem during the daylight hours if the guy behind you in the raised pick up is not paying attention!!! :censored:

That is the route I chose and I am well pleased. My biggest concern was being able to see my taillights in the bright sun, since my trike is red. Red on red doesn't show up well at all. Ron rode behind me the other day to check out the brightness and he was very pleased with the result. He made the comment that the lights are bright and look as if the brake is being applied while riding, but when I applied the brake it really put out a burst of light. I personally do not like lights that are in constant motion every time you apply the break. Some people apply the brake constantly and it causes a real distraction in my opinion.

I hate riding behind someone that has lights flashing off and on all the time.

The LED tail lights I have on my MotorTrike conversion pulsate for approximately 2 seconds and then stay on steady when the brake is applied. They are definitely "much" brighter then the standard bulb tail lights I had when I first bought the trike.

Thanks guys, it sounds like you get exactly what you pay for ! ! ! I really like the lights that pulse a couple of times before staying on, I have those on my Chev SSR and they seem to get your attention a little better. You can't have to much RED on the rear end of a bike in my opinion. THANKS AGAIN ! ! !

I wish my 2011 Tri Glide used the 1157 bulbs, but my tail/brake lights use the 3157 type bulbs. I'm not sure when the 3157 started, but there is a smaller choice of LED's.

Rick Kay, I'm not sure if this is why your LED's were not as bright, but I have read & heard that if you use white LED's in red lenses it will not be as bright as using red LED's in red lenses.

I suppose that could be the case, but honestly, after paying big $$$ for LED "bulbs", they should work at least as well as incandescent bulb. I run amber bulbs in front, red bulbs in the rear, so the color is not the issue. If I were to try this again, instead of using LED bulbs in the original housing, I would convert to a complete LED light. I think it would eliminate any issues.
