Leak down test notice letter from HD

Update video .... better information provided. Problem seems to stem from the valve seat inserts not being properly inserted into the head. Pics at end of video show the problem in detail.

Good find Bob

i want to take a stab at this

My guess is Harley is getting the heads with the seats already installed

If that is true, the blame is on the manufacturer of the heads

I just don't see it cost effective for Harley to have in house guys or girls building heads JMO

Leak down test has nothing to do with oil pumps....

31 posts and still haven't seen the friends letter from Harley...

I went through my junk mail at home to see if I missed that letter but came up empty handed. I would have liked to have seen it also.

As for the valve seats and all of the other little problems found like the poorly crimped oil cooler lines, etc. They could have all been avoided if Harley would just invest a little more in quality control inspections IMO.

My 1990 had a similar problem - porous cases. The MoCo had bought case forgings from several suppliers and by the time a problem surfaced there was no way to determine which bikes had the bad cases. So, rather than panic everybody, they just had dealers watch for the symptoms. In my case they replaced the cases and attached bearings at just under 100,000 miles. I paid a few bucks to do the rods at the same time and had a new lower end. I suspect that H-D will do something similar with this one if it even exists - which is becoming less likely with every post. I have the 8V. It's the least of my worries.

With my 11 Tri-Glide....My reverse motor went out three times, So i'm just wondering if a leak down test could have prevented that from happing...;) -;)----:cxtv:

Ok ,I talked wth him on Friday,(he works third shift in another plant) said he is looking for it dont know what happened to it after the xmas clean up.He said it was a TSB i guess this is a service bulletin so as soon as i get it I will post it until then remain calm.

That is asking a lot out of them.
