Jacking it up

Since I'm a new trike owner, I've never jacked one up before.
Is it neccessary to tie the front wheel to the frame and chock it so it doesn't move?
I'm not sure the motorcyle lift I have is stout enough to lift the trike.
I need to jack up the rear end so I can adjust the brakes and stuff.
Thanks.

I jack mine up all the time with a cheap motorcycle lift.... no problems yet. Don't know what you're riding though or how heavy it is. Chumbly-;)
'99 FXDL with a Lehman body. Weighs about 1000 lbs. The weight rating on the Harbor Freight bike jack is 1000 lbs, but I don't know how much I want to trust it

There usually is a little fudge factor on that max weight. I would just be carefull. It will probably bend before breaking.

A friend of mine has a life, Handy I think, anyway when we jack up my trike he raises it above the height we need and then places two 4x4 posts under the lift, under the rear wheels and lowers the lift to rest on these 4x4 posts...and the locking brace of the lift. just some piece of mind for us both.

Blue, are you saying the trike rests on the 4x4 posts? Plus on the Jack? How do you 'restrain' the front end? Thks

OK, I might have miss led you.
It a full lift with extentions on the sides, we put the 4x4 post under the rear section of the extentions and then lower the lift onto the posts, along with the safety brace on the lift...hope this clears it up.
