Question of the day... Old Shiney's stereo has been crappy for the last two years. May get it repaired or possibly replaced anyone use Iron Cross radio repair or replacement. Are OEM radios worth repairing? or do they need a little help possibly a booster of some kind, Antenna's go bad? I know very little about stereos and do not want to lose any functions i.e. intercom and handlebar controls. Help? Fred

Fred, I remember yrs ago , alot of guys changed radios, but dont remember which kind. As far as antenna, stock or an aftermarket ? Can't tell from the pic. My 03 had over 100 k on it stock radio & antenna. Antenna did break off, tried a hidden antenna in front fairing, didn't work for crap. Put a stock back on & was ok. Never a prob. with radio, but a lot of guys used Iron Cross , for repair. Best of luck fixing it.

If you are talking about AM/FM......All the Tri- Glides i had the reception was iffy if not down right useless especially in the hills of North Jersey and Eastern PA and NY....All i use for my music is Thumb Drives..Loaded up with songs...Anywhere from 8 hundred on one of them to over 4 thousand on another...Straight music no talking no interruptions ...Except if someone call's me on my cell phone...Then it will prompt me and ask do i want to accept or ignore....

I have a mp3 on the handlebars now works fine. I would like to get it off the handlebars. I may just move it to the windshield bag. Just would like to have a great radio XM sure ruins you for anything else. Fred

Sirius works in the hills without a problem [In my truck].... I just don't need it in my Trike....

I've had Tony @ Iron Cross repair a couple of HK head units in the past. One of them developed another issue and he repaired it again for $50. My luck with the stock HK head units hasn't been that great. I have 7 broken ones under my work bench and the one that has been repaired twice is now not working again!! My buddies have had the same problems and I have been using either Aquatic Av or the Rockford Fosgate units. I just put a Rockford Fosgate in my trike a couple of months ago with out any complaints so far! Down side is the communication intercom isn't there. Good luck

Thank you for the information I just may upgrade my mp3 unit. Rarely ever use the CB. FRED

Update

After much lurking around different websites I decided to replace the head unit Aquatic AV something or other. My bride and I discussed it the corded intercom is getting older cords are not always working without shaking the plugs so... Never use the CB It will be bluetooth intercom and a new tune box. If the speakers seem crappy I will switch them out as well. Did not get the model with SAT. XM Just can't justify the monthly payment for the hours of usage. Travel safe Fred

Fred, let me know if you need speakers. I may still have ones I took out of my 13 CVO. If I do (have to check the garage attic) They are yours for the taking.

No rush here, I don't evem know if they are still around. If they are, they came off my 13 0r 14 CVO. Can't remember which one as I had one of each. I will look around & see if they are still here . I do know they were removed when new as I went with bigger speakers on the CVO.

Just saw your brother passed. Sorry to hear that Fred. You & Jeanni take care.

MP 5 or MP 5+?

I am in no way involved or affiliated with AV. I'll be curious to hear your review after install.

Like I mentioned I have had "zero" issues or complaints. I'm pretty sure you're gonna love it!

Believe me I will the CB was on biggie for us but the intercom was. After discussing the need to replace the headsets on the wired helmets the choice was made much easier. as far as taking the music out of the helmets I think was also a plus. Plus getting old and ringing ears doesn't help anything either. We shall see it may be a while till I do the install we are still killing deer here in Pennsylvania LOL.... Travel safe Fred

for those who would like to try sirius xm it is on sale now for $5.00/mo. Also if you need repairs done Sierra Electronics has been repairing bike radios for about as long long as bikes have been coming with radios. I have used them several times and always been happy.
