Interesting experience at Dealership- rear tire on front related

I picked up my TG from having some warranty work done.

One of the things I brought it in for was a crack in the paint that had developed down the center of the front fender.

Upon removing the front wheel and the front fender it was determined that something (probably a rock in the tread) got stuck between the tire and the underside of the fender, causing a small dent. This is what started the crack in the paint.

This is not a warranty covered issue. It is something I can make a claim with my insurance company for. Have not decided if I will or not.

Here is what is interesting.

When I dropped it off, there were 3 guys, including the Service Manager, and the Warranty Claim "specialist", that spent a solid 15 minutes looking at it, flashlights, rolling it around, feeling the surface, looking at the tire to see if there was any indication of something having been stuck in the tread... generally very interested in it, as it was not something they had seen before.

Then, when it got on the rack, tire and fender pulled, and more looking and picture taking.

NOT ONCE did any of them notice that the tire was a rear tire mounted in reverse on the front wheel.

I know this could have happened even with a front tire mounted...however, the rear tire does leave less clearance between the tire and the fender, thus making it More Likely that this kind of thing can happen.

I really like the extra grip of the rear tire up front. I used to like that I would get more miles out of a rear tire than a front tire (thus saving money). I also liked the look of the rear tire filling the fender more.

Could be a 1 in a million coincidence.

Just wanted to share the heads up of what I experienced.

I have found that the new Avon trike tire is larger than the stock Dunlop; it fills the fender space. I really notice it if I park near another Triglide.

Sometimes when you focus on one thing you don't see the big picture...
Kind of like the Forest from the tree thing... I've done that a few times.:gah:
