Was looking at the CSC Viper sale flyer and went to their site and looked at the price list. I was kind of shocked. I have the trike part of my trike valued at $13K. A comparable CSC trike kit installed/painted would be over $15K although I didn't understand some of the terms used for components. I then went to the Roadsmith site and my trike kit today would cost $17K painted. Hannigan was somewhere in the middle. I may be off in the figures a bit but my point is, I am seriously underinsured as far as the trike kit goes. I didn't consider labor. Since I only have $13K for accessories to cover loss of the trike kit part of my trike, what should the number be? I know it depends on who would install but Randy's shop is about the closest I know of. I have nothing against any of the manufacturers noted. I did notice Motor Trike seemed to be the least expensive when going over their price list but didn't see auxillary fuel tanks and a few other things I have on my current trike.

I think you're taking the wrong approach. You're looking at the cost to replace your USED trike (accessories) with NEW. I think if you totaled your trike, the value of your Wing plus $13,000 in accessories would be more than enough to replace your entire trike with one comparable to what you're riding now. I don't know of any vehicle insurance that would pay for new replacement cost for a used vehicle. I don't think you're underinsured......

I have first hand experience dealing with having trike totalled out. I had full coverage on my 2007 GL1800 with a CSC Viper kit through State Farm. When I first insured it back in 2014, it was still 2 wheels. I was worried about the increase when I had it triked in 2016 but notified them. I was told that they would just make a notation/addition to my account that the trike kit has been added. My premium stayed the same. I was a little concerned about that and talked to them a few times but was assured that I was covered.

Fast forward to September of last year and the worst possible happened and my trike was a total loss. It had about 95k miles on it. State Farm came through with a payment for it that was in the mid $19k. I was impressed. I don't have the exact method they used but basically that works out about trade in value for the bike and about $12k for the addition of a trike kit. Not quite enough for a replacement but very close. Enough to work with as I am doing.

I am replacing it with a 2012 GL1800 that has everything except airbag which matches what my 2007 was. And it will have a brand new Viper kit and that will come with a 5 year, unlimited mile warranty. I'm still going to have to drop some of my own money on it to cover the cost but end up 5 years newer and 22k miles on the bike.

The one letdown was that I had the 07 outfitted the way I wanted but took many years to get it to that point. I had well over $3000 in accessories that I couldn't get back. The tow lot where it went to was fantastic and my son in law was able to go there to retrieve my stuff. He was able to salvage some of the accessories but a lot were bolted on and he would have needed tools to remove that he didn't have. And some of the stuff he couldn't get are no longer available as the various companies have shut down.

I submitted an itemized list with the items, part numbers, and cost. State Farm took the list and only provided about 10% compensation. I'm guessing they considered many items as used and depreciated the value. At least they covered some of it.

I found out that I should have provided a list up front as I accumulated the accessories instead of bringing it up after the fact. I did discuss this when working on coverage for my new rig. They want me to provide all the details once I install them. I have actually started accumulating much of what I wasn't able to save. I am down to just a few small ticket items to still get.

But back to coverage I confirmed with my new agent that I insure it as a bike and then inform them that it was converted to a trike. The agent makes a notation on the account and no increase on premiums.

Just wanted to add, I could have easily found a decent replacement trike and not had to pay anything extra and would have been fine. But I'm a bit nit picky and had a good idea of what I wanted after my last one and didn't want to just settle. I wanted the exact features especially the ABS I had on mine and a CSC Viper kit that included floorboards. Most of the used GL1800 CSC conversions did not have the ABS. And the very few (and I do mean few) I was able to find outfitted the way I wanted were tremendously more money.

With a lot of patience, finding the bike with what I wanted was actually a lot easier and the one I bought, I basically stole. This helped ease the cost of doing the conversion and I will now have a newer bike with features I wanted, less miles than previous by a lot, a new conversion that no one else has had a chance to booger up, and a very worthwhile warranty as a far as the conversion part. Going this route just made the most sense for me.

I suspect you are right... just got nervous when I saw prices from various trike manufacturers. I would probably just buy another trike that was already converted. There are quite a few out there in my price range but I MUST HAVE: IRS, aux fuel tank, rake kit and would try like heck to get my current seat as it is a Tom Simmons customer made for my personal own-self (guess that is the most discreet way of saying it) and it cost me over a grand. Tom Simmons is THE Goldwing (and other models) seat guy from Arkansas.

I can understand the seat. I was at a Rogers (Arkansas) Ride In a few years back and the guy I shared the room with had an appointment set up with Tom to redo his seat. He couldn't say enough about his seat and the experience. And everyone who's done it has never had anything bad to say.

Not sure what year(s) you are considering. Your profile shows an 06. The seats that fit those are used on 01 thru 10. (12 thru 17 are different.) With the 06 thru 10, most will have the heated seat option. As long as you are looking at a 2010 or older, an option would be to just find a used seat and swap it out before selling yours. If you look around, you could find a decent used heated seat for around $100. That's a small price to pay so you can keep your Tom Simmons seat. If you go with a 2012 or newer, I think you would be hard pressed to find a GL1800 trike that has a Tom Simmons. Not saying you won't but it's a smaller list of folks who own his seats.

Another option is to still get a decent used seat, swap it with the TS seat, and then just sell the TS seat separately. You still probably won't get what you put into it but it will be better than just giving it away when you sell your trike.

I had a Tom Simmons Custom on my last 3 wings. Transferred from one bike to another when I traded. Only parted with it when selling my last trike. I understand.........

We live in S. Texas at the lower edge of the Hill Country and would not consider a heated seat or grips, etc. I am not thinking of selling my trike as it has been paid for for many years but did think of buying a Royal Star Venture trike that another member had for sale. I put my trike on the market for a bit of a higher price and it didn't sell, thus didn't buy the RSV trike which that owner did end up selling. Love the RSV as I owned a 2000 RSV Millennium Edition (white w/tan seats and trim). It was serial #3. Just to add, I already own a spare STOCK seat for my 06.
