I want to convert a RoadGlide to a Trike

Has anyone used FBI on a trike conversion? What should I be looking for in a company? is it better to sell my bike and buy a trike?

If you like your bike I would say convert it to a trike. Unless you can buy a new TRIGLIDE then that a different story. With keeping your bike and making it a trike at least you know what you have. My 2 cents

What year is your RG? If it's modified the way you want,no reason to start over with something different. Our 2011 Street Glide had less than 3K miles,had a rare color combo,had lots of mods,so we decided on a Hannigan Transformer conversion. After our first ride on our new trike,we couldn't be happier.

Just my opinion but the four companies I would seriously consider for a trike conversion,are Hannigan,California Side Car,Roadsmith,and DFT.

If you do that, get a Motor Trike kit, you wont regret it. I had one. But only if your bike is paid off. If not trade it in no a trike.

For a better ride and handling go for a conversion. We went with a Hannigan Transformer for the longer wider stance and the independent suspension. It rides smooth and handles great. We love it.

Roadglide concerns

I have 60,000 miles on this RG. It have several upgrades I like but Im not sure which is better, new with warranty or mods on current bike with 60,000 miles. I luv the RG ride on two wheels but not sure on three. the FBI convert cost about 13K. is that about right? which conversion rides the best with less trouble. I can buy new if I need to but my bike is paid for! Need help from you experts. Wife want a pop up camping trailer also. Which is the best Bunkhouse or ?:xzqxz:

Just be aware that for $13K,you're getting a trunk that looks like it won't even hold a full face helmet. It's also a solid axle,not an IRS. If you don't care about that,my dealer here in TX can install a Champion kit w/solid axle for around $10K. Champion has been around for a long time and they build nice stuff.

The most POPULAR HD conversions in no particular order that I can think of are: Hannigan, Roadsmith, Motortrike, CSC ( California Side Car) Champion and DFT. FBI as you know makes a conversion but I would say its not in the top 5 by popularity. Most of them offer both straight axle and IRS. You can check their web sights to get all their specs. Everyone has different tastes that why there are several companies to choose from. They all make a good product.

You first decision is are you going to do the conversion or are you going to have it done? Not all of those companies will sell a kit to an individual. So if you are doing the work you can eliminate those that won't sell to you. If you are going to have the work done then your first and MOST IMPORTANT is to find a good installer. A good installer make the kit do what you will expect. A poor installer can take the very best kit offered and make it a mess for you. Find that good installer then let them help guide you to the conversion that is going to work for you. Just because one of these companies has designated an installer able to install their kit doesn't make them a good installer. There are several members on here that have a great conversion installed by a dealer for that conversion and have a terrible out come.

Welcome from Oklahoma,

I had an '01 SE Road Glide with all the goodies. I put about 30k on it and loved it. It was a great bike. My personal feelings are that if you are going to convert it.... That's what you'll end up with .... A converted Road Glide.

I decided to follow a different drummer and sold the Road Glide and bought a Boom.. It was a little sad to say goodbye to the old girl, but I dont have any regrets. Good Luck and let us know what you end up with. Jimmer

I have said it before and will say it again and again. YOUR INSTALLER IS THE KEY. I had a bad installer but Hannigan was good enough to straighten everything out. Thanks to Hannigan I have one of the best conversions around. I love the independent suspension and large trunk. Just make sure of your installer. If you can let Hannigan put a Transformer on it, you will not be disappointed.

This is helping out on my decision. I'm now looking at Hannigan, Road
Smith and D.F.T. I live in Oklahoma and will have to drop it off for the conversion. Wont be able to just drop by the company to check on it or to get repairs. Now who would ya'll use?:xzqxz:

My figures may be off but it looks like to convert my bike to a trike it would cost around $18,000. Dammit it Boy! Is this about what everyone is paying? I saw on my dealers floor the same bike as mine for $16,500 with only 7,000 miles on it. It doesn't have all my mods but the price of a bike is cheaper than the kit. Any input on this? I'm kind of price shock right now.:xzqxz::xzqxz::xzqxz:

I paid 13,000.00 out the door at Nutting Custom Trikes and that was with one custom color on a Motor Trike kit. It is a very nice kit. Come to BB and B bike rally and look at them.

If you get carried away with all those options,they can easily exceed the cost of the base kit. :laugh:

You guys have touched on something I've been giving serious consideration. I want to take a Tri-Glide, remove the Ultra bat wing and install a RoadGlide fairing and front end. From what I can determinee from the parts books and looking high and low on each it should be a snap Kinda like a Lego kit. Basically an un-bolt and switch.

Anybody on here taken up this challenge ?? Got my eye on a 2011 TG thats in great shape but the fairing is toast and a 2010 RoadGlide that's had the arse end knocked off. Fairing and such are untouched, pristine condition. And another BIG plus they are the same color.....:clapping:

I did it to a 2007. But I made it even more difficult by starting with a Road King. Had to extend the main harness for the Ign switch.

But what you are looking at really is not that difficult. Almost everything moves over, but the handle bars might need changing unless the wider base clears the fairing. Also if you have 4 switches operating on the switch panel the RG panel only accommodates 3. I did not do final clearances when I looked on the newer TRI but I believe the steering damper will work you MAY have to modify the mount just a little where it attaches to the forks. The holes where the fairing mount attaches to the frame on there on the TRI they are just plugged.
