Howdy folks, perspective Freewheeler owner here

Hey y'all. Been interested in motorcycles, specifically Harleys, since I could crawl. Sadly however, Cerebral Palsy has precluded me from riding a two wheeler, so I've been relegated to lusting at bikes from afar. Can Am's came out when I was in high school, and while I liked them in a sense that they could get me riding, I disliked the comparatively limited dealer network, and proprietary service. In the back of my mind I wanted a Harley trike, but couldn't afford a tri glide, or conversion, nor did I like their styling. So I let the trike bug die.

That is until my buddy bought a Harley Wide Glide, and another bought a Sportster, and my boss started eying a Sportster, and before I knew it everyone around me was on bikes. Just for kicks I went on Harley's website, and stumbled upon the Freewheeler.... My mind was blown... It was exactly what I wanted.

A leaned down factory trike, with all the character and mechanicals of its two wheeled counterpart. Just for sh*ts and giggles, I decided to see if the local HD dealer had one in stock. Much to my surprise, they did.

I went over, checked out the bike to see if I could even work the controls. With some longer shift pegs, and an extended rear brake, I will be able to ride it just fine. So now, the plan is to sell my boat and collector car this winter, and replace them with a Freewheeler in the spring.

welcome aboard glad you found what is going to make you very happy. If possible see if you have a trike school in your area.

Unfortunately you are in a catch 22. Fall and winter is the time to buy the trike. Any motorcycle for that matter. The car you can sell anytime. But the boat is best sold in the spring. Personally I'd put the boat and car up for sale now. Take the hit on the boat but be ready to jump on a deal this winter on the trike. Boats are just a money pit anyway. The car might be another story. Hard to get rid of one thing just to get another. If it's a real collectors item I'd be hard press to let go. Tough position you are in. Dreams are dreams. Hope it all works for you.

I agree. However, spring is the best time to sell the boat and the car, as it is an open topped roadster. As much as I enjoy the car, I'm not able to really drive it due to ergonomics, so I'd rather pass it along to someone else to enjoy. Hopefully I can snag one of the leftover 2015 freewheelers as the 2016's come in. The car in question is a 1971 Stimson Safari 6. Built using a Mini drivetrain and sub frame. One of between four and six built. We removed the 1000cc motor, and replaced it with a warmed over 1275cc. Triple core aluminum radiator, etc.

WELCOME to the board. There are a LOT of very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful folks on here with a wealth of information that most are eager to share.

I had two bad hips, and before I got them replaced I could not even swing a leg over a bicycle, let alone a motorcycle or a Trike. After I got the first hip replaced I tried sitting on a friends Can Am RS, and to my surprise I actually could sit down, and the doors of opportunity began to swing open. After the second hip was replaced I was physically ready to buy a motorcycle, and had decided a three wheeler was the way to go due to the extra stability, and I kind of liked the idea of having some on board storage.

At the time I was considering a Can Am RT touring because I thought the Tr-Glide looked like a giant Hoverround or one of those three wheeled personal mobility devices that old people poke along on.
And then they came out with the Freewheeler :pepper: and I was in LOVE with its retro hot rod look.
But a good friend of mine who has had a number of bikes and now rides an Ultra Limited 2 wheeler suggested that I might want to consider the Tr-Glide for all of the extra creature comforts, like the wind screen, infotainment center with GPS touch screen and the rear Tour-Pak.

The more that I looked at the two, the more I started to lean towards a Tri-Glide. It has three times the storage capacity, and it would allow me and a partner to go on long distance rides or tours in sublime comfort. And the very inviting rear seat or throne might just be a good chick magnet.

I ended up going with a Tr-Glide, and I could not be happier. Turns out the Tour-Pak is a God send that I use EVERY time that I ride, and the wind screen makes long distance rides a real joy.

The Tri-Glide was more money than a Freewheeler, but IMO.....it isWELL worth it.
