How to reduce updraft?

OK fellow Freewheeler riders anybody found a way to reduce the amount of updraft created while riding? Just short rides around town and back and forth to work aren't bad, but any long distance runs at highway speeds aren't very comfortable.
I currently have a 16" Long Ride Shields windshield and the 1 1/2" DK Customs tank lift installed along with a Lindby Magnumbar. While riding if I feel around the majority of the turbulence is coming up beside the tank in front of my knees. I've searched for fork mount deflectors but nobody is offering any at this time.
Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Red

I am working on air deflectors for the forks. Problem is the turn signals are in the way. With a light bar they work just fine. The light bar moves the signals toward the front more that allows them to clear.
I am experiencing a lot of wind noise, more so than any windshield bike I have ever rode. I have a new windshield that will be here tomorrow and I can post if it helps or not.
AS soon as I am able to get to a hd shop I am going to see what can be done for the fork mounted air deflectors to work.

I am not afraid to cut something up and make it work.
You are using the 16inch lrs and I will be using the 20 inch lrs. We will see what the differences are.

When I test rode the FW it had a 20" shield and it was right in my line of site so I went with 16" LRS.
On my last trike, Lehman Storm, I had Memphis Shades lowers and they seemed to help. I've also been looking at different ways to mount lowers but haven't really came up with anything that I like yet. Hopefully one of the aftermarket companies will come up with something soon.

I'd like a clarification here, please.

As far as I know, Long Ride Shields DOESN'T have a shield for the Freewheeler. They've been selling Road Kings shields, but they don't fit snugly around the headlight nacelle. I bought one, then returned it for a full refund when I saw it was the wrong fit.

Harley Davidson only has two windshields ~ a 16" windshield (P/N 57400274) and a 20" windshield (P/N 57400273) as of 6/07/2015

As of 3 weeks ago, http://www.longrideshields.com, http://www.clearviewshields.com, http://rifle.com, Memphis Shades, and Klock Werks didn't have a windshield for the Freewheeler.

Is LRS telling you that they're selling you an FLRT shield that fits properly around the headlight nacelle? Correct me if I'm wrong.

DIY lowers with cutouts for signals. These were on my zuki Vol. moved them to my VTX and made new plastic without the cut outs.

As you stated the Road King shield will have a larger space around the headlight. I ordered the 18" Long Ride shield for the Heritage. I think it will fit nicely around the FW headlight. I'll let you know Wed when I get it.

The Freewheeler is a roadking. The opening around the head light is small with no buffeting effect because the air movement goes upward very slightly. Most windshields do have a larger opening around the headlight in most cases. It's the shape if the headlight and position of the winshield that causes the larger opening. I will know tomorrow if in deed it has a larger opening as compared to the HD windshield. They both are designed for a 7 inch headlight. For lower wind deflectors you can use fork mounted types. I think Memphis makes some. They make just the mounting hardware so it is easy to make a set, like cavie posted. what The front if a Freewheeler is a Radking the rear is a trike.
I am considering the a kuryakyn 3.5 inch running light with turn signal, I can add a set of wind deflectors if they will work. The key is if they move the signals out enough to clear.

Please post your results with the LRS shield for the heritage windshield. I would love to know if it fits. Been trying to figure out the windshield fit for the freewheeler for some time.

The RK opening is larger than the FW opening due to the larger light on the RK. The FW and Heritage headlight are the same size.

Something that I've used on my Road King, Ultra (with lowers removed) and TG (with lowers removed) are the soft lowers. Not only are they good for reducing cold or rain, but also reduce the amount of air coming up at the legs by a significant amount. Fork Deflectors work really well with the soft lowers to get rid of almost all of it.

No you are correct LRS doesn't make a shield specifically for the Freewheeler. I'm using a Road King shield, there is a larger gap around the headlight but I can live with that.

I've been looking at that option also, but I have a modified rear brake on mine. Linkage system from stock brake to to a brake pedal on the left side so I can brake and shift with my left foot (I'm a right above knee amputee), soft lowers would interfere with the linkage.

I have been looking at mounting smoked plexiglas or a piece of diamond plate in front of the bars to clear the linkage.

Will let you know Wed night. I'm 99% sure it will work.

It'll fit, as I discovered back in November 2014. All the holes lined up with my H-D shield, but I wasn't happy with 1) the gap above the nacelle and 2) the 18" shield wasn't 18" when it was (temporarily) mounted on my FLRT ~ it was closer to a 19-1/2" shield ON MY TRIKE.

I got to Step# 3 of the LRS instruction sheet, and determined that the "18" windshield wasn't what I needed. To the credit of LRS, they took it back, and paid shipping both ways.

I'd buy a shield from LRS again in a heartbeat, if they had one specifically for the Freewheeler.

If your shield measured 19 1/2 inches you got a 20 inch shield not a 18 inch. 18 inch shield is 17 1/2 inches according to the site. The recuve looses a 1/2 inch. I got mine today and have it on the trike. I got a 20 inch shield to help with the buffeting for my wife. For me I would have gotten a 16 or 18 inch shield. But the wife needed more protection. i understand now about the large gap. After riding with it I don't see a problem with the large gap other than looks. None of the air can get to the rider.

It hits the dash at the speedo and stops.

if I had took my time I would have ordered one for the Hertiage.
It did help slightly for the wind noise.

It helped momma a Lot.

The buffeting is gone,

I'm just installed 'Air Wings' from BAKER BUILT...

ok, I'm massively impressed with these 'Air Wings' I just bought from BAKER BUILT...
Here's the link:
http://bakerbuilt.com/bbairwings/windblockers.html

I installed the HDUWB-S ... the new one for the Ultra Classic & Tri-Glide ... (My friend contacted them about my Freewheeler, and these are the ones they suggested).

Here's some pics... Only got one ride on them so far (had my appointment for my 5k checkup)... and I'm MASSIVELY IMPRESSED!

Huge reduction of wind in my face!

Any modification needed for install?

Have you noticed any increased heat?
the road glide ultra comes with a set that operates the same way.
I have a set of those. I'll give em a try

Interesting; I wonder how they would work without hard lowers....
Do you happen to have a picture from the front looking straight on?
Thanks for sharing,.

The Road glide ultra wind deflectors will not fit the freewheeler. The left side fits perfectly butt the right side the deflector hits the friction shock and rear brake reservoir. Thought I would let some know just incase they wanted to try these. Not sure about the triglide.

Psychogramps,
How did that Heritage shield work out for you? If I ever order another one I might go that route if it worked.
Thanks,
Red

Good but not as good as I thought. The headlight 0pening on the Heritage LRS shield is smaller[left to right] than the RK LRS shield so the shield is nice and close on the sides. The top to bottom space is the same as the RK LRS shield. There's a 3.5" space between the top of headlight and bottom of the WS, but as other posters said there's no additional wind from that space. So what you gain is a tighter fit side to side.

Id love to get an LRS windshield but still looking for quick detach hardware and the support bars that actually mount on the front of the shield itself. Does HD sell the windshield metal cross member attachment bars on there own?

Thanks for the information

I called the HD shop and got a price quote for the windshield parts. 300 bucks. Apparently the actual windshield is the cheapest part of the deal.

I decided to get a Road King windsplitter windshield in 16 inch dark smoked. Found one online from an HD dealer for about 380.00. Had it in 4 days.

Works really well. So well in fact that below 60 MPH I get no wind at all. The dark smoked is ok for night time as I can see over the top of the windshield easily.

The only thing now is that the padding in my full face helmet is worn out and on my right side (where padding is gone) the engine sound at certain R.P.M.s is pretty loud.

I'm going to get a new helmet and that should fix the problem.

In the meantime ear plugs.
