How to get a GPS to come through the stero speakers.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 2460 LMT GPS and I'm wondering if there is a way to get the sound from the GPS to go through the stero speakers? There is not a "jack" on the GPS that is the same as the Aux jack on the stereo. The only "port" or "jack" that's on the GPS is the one where I can plug it from the PGS to the computer to get "Lifetime Map Updates" from Garmin. I know that I can spend 4X more money for the Harley Zumo, which I belive will put the audio through the stereo speakers, but my pencil isn't quite that sharp now-a-days! If anyone who has some kinda idea I would greatly appreciate it!!

Shiner I use an iPhone. Bought a Garmin USA app from the iTunes store for $50. This app makes your phone work exactly like a Garmin GPS. Voice commands and all. I bought this cable from Iron Aces Speed Shop. It charges the phone, plays music and voice commands from the GPS through the speakers.

I mount the phone on the handle bars with a mount from RAM Mounts.

This is not exactly an answer to your question but it works really well for me.

The Garmin site says you GPS has bluetooth pairing as an option.

It details how to add bluetooth pairing to any stereo with an AUX input jack.

SHould work just fine for your needs.

First, you know if you use your GPS in your input jack, it will tell you where to go, but you will loose your music unless you switch between music and aux. Here is a solution


I bought a "GPS for Dummies" (google it up) they are available for under 50 bucks and are small so they won't take your whole dash. I bought the Kuryatkyn (or however you spell it) gas cap mount. Anyway, the unit has an MP3 player! Now you can play any music you want from an expansion slot. Directions will override the music. You get Both!!

Ain't technology grand!

If you did go with the harley GPS you would need the interface harness to hear it thru the speakers while it cuts out the music..

I went with the Harley GPS and harness ..yea pricey but works great..can hear the GPs with no problems..

think a phone can interface with this setup too..

I'm not messing with wiring or electrical connections. Yes it's a little more money, but the H-D Zumo660 and the fairing mounting bracket is the only way to go - for me. It has everything you need for a great clean uncluttered installation and a nice big screen.

Doesn't your GPS have an ear plug port? If it does all you have to do is run a cord from that to the AUX port on the radio.

I have an observation. I use a 4.5" Garmin GPS mounted with a RAM mount. Even though it talks to me, I do not need to hear it, and pay no attention when it does. I can look at the screen very easily and follow the directions. I guess I am not sure why the GPS needs to be heard. It seems to be really easy to just glance at it to see where to turn. At least to me anyway.

I find the screen is hard to see in the sunlight..so hearing the directions make it much easier than taking my eyes off the road to look at the screen..

Ok,,Reckon that makes some sense, as I have experienced that too. I just shade it with my left hand for a second and take a look. I already have kind of an idea where I am headed anyway, even in a strange city.

Also when you get old, your eyesight starts going south and what's even worse, is trying to see the screen with prescription sunglasses. I have a hard time seeing the 7" GPS in my car w/my sunglasses on.
I rely on the audio about 90% of the time - especially in a city - sure don't want to take my eyes off the road for a second there.

I do the hand over the screen also when the sun is behind me. ThumbUp

They have shades for that, but to me they look dorky.

Gary I use one of them dorky shades...It does help when you do need to look at the screen as sometimes the young lady speaking is not making sense...LOL
