How do I fix a Garmin device that is not detected by Garmin Express on a Windows PC?

Hi

I'm **tired** of Garmin software not working. The Garmin device that is not detected by Garmin Express on a Windows PC. Can be anyone help me, what is the problem?

Thanks

The device has got to be registered with garman. If it came with unlimited updates , then answer there questions and plug it into there website. The older ones you will pay to update. The key is it must be registered or they will assume it’s stolen .

I might help if you were more specific about the problem. What Garmin Device? Have you tried different cables to connect to PCD? Have you updated all your Garmin apps on the PC? Does the Garmin Device "turn on" when connected to the PC

What version of Windows are using? Like oldprowler ask, which Garmin are you talking about ?

A friend picked up a at a 550 last year at a swap-meet that had a security lock it. Tried everything in the world to get Garmin software to recognize it...no luck. He sent it back to Garmin for repairs and to unlock. Stolen !!! Unit was turned over to local Sheriffs office.

I am using the Nuvi and laptop running window 7 pro. I have installed the Garmin Express Software. When I connect the Garmin device to my computer with the USB Cable, it search for the driver, starts installing the driver but aborts and gives me a message that driver installation failed and the device was uninstalled. The Garmin devices do not show on the computer. How do i get my PC to find the Garmin?

I just saw there is a new (since last week) version of Garmin Express - 6.12.0.0 Update Garmin Express and see if it will work. With Garmin Express open click on Settings (the gear icon in the upper right). Then click About and Check for Updates.

I do know from past difficulties that map updates won't work if Garmin Express is out of date. If it still does not work then here is my original reply below.

Here is a link to get the drivers needed from Garmin. It states that with the Nuvi you shouldn't need to do this. And with Garmin Express you shouldn't need to do this. But you're using Windows 7 and that may be old enough that the drivers aren't there. Is your Windows 7 up to date? If not and updates are available I'd do the updates for sure.

If it still won't work here is an idea:

Create a 'Restore Point' so you can go back to where you were if need be.

Download and install the Garmin drivers and see if that works.

If it doesn't it probably won't cause any problem but if a problem does arise you can 'Restore' from your previous 'Restore Point.'

Sometimes I've had to do a 'Restore' in the 'Safe Mode.'

Or as suggested enter a ticket to Garmin. I'm facing a problem now in that my computer will not download the latest map version 2020.10. I keep getting an Error message and there is not enough info in the error log file I sent Garmin for them to tell exactly what is going on. I'm still working with them on it.

Check out the OP's "About Me" profile...says she works for Garmin Customer Support..

Says she's from Washington State but her IP address says India..?

(Just realized that)..

She might really be a Garmin Customer Support staffer that is frustrated and doing the best she can to get the right answers for Garmin customers. If so kudos to her for trying.

Good catch but all this seems a bit strange. Checked Garmin and can find no indication of any office in Washington state. She says her city/state is 'clauson' but I cannot find any such city. And I've called Garmin many times (too darn many, lol) over the years and everyone I've even spoken to has been at their Olathe, KS, main office.
