The mention of Hot Springs always makes me smile. In 1996, my brother-in-law and I were riding from Michigan to Oklahoma City. One afternoon, we stopped off in Hot Springs for lunch. On the way out of town, we were discussing our route at a stoplight. A guy in a pickup in the lane next to us over heard our conversation, and advised us to turn left at the light, rather than go straight, as was our intended route. He backed up so we could paddle our bikes over to his lane to make our turn. We thanked him, and enjoyed 150 miles of scenery. We stopped for gas at a little 2 pump station in the middle of nowhere. As we looked at the map, trying to figure out where we were, the owner strolled over. He asked where we were trying to get to. When we told him Oklahoma City, he said "Hell, you boys are closer to Dallas than Oklahoma City." I can only imagine how the pickup truck driver was chuckling to himself as he sent the two Michigan boys into the bowels of Texas...
