Hi Everyone,

Im so glad to find this forum. I probably wouldn't be much help but I am a fast learner.

Mom of 4, 2 boys and 2 girls, all but one of my children ride.

In the late 80's I learned how to ride on a little Honda trail 50 at 6, graduated to a Honda trail 70, then a Honda XR125. I took a digger with that and my father said enough and put me on an ATV.

Over the years, I had several motorcycles..(and still had the 70trail and xr125) Unfortunately most of the street bikes are way too big for me. I get stuck on a 250 Rebel (which I currently own a 1982 CM250c that's been modified to fit) I got out of riding After a minor accident in 2008.

I stopped riding street bikes.

I have been riding a 2015 Can Am Outlander 1000 for the last 6 years. As a past time, I am currently trying to get the CM250c back up and running. :gah:

Im here because I am trying to find a better conversion kit for my motorcycle and I want to learn more about trikes. I have a 2007 HD 1200 Sportster Low (and no it doesn't fit me either, Im just that short) My husband bought it as a birthday present for me and surprised me with it. Since I don't fit we decided to put a trike conversion kit on it. I have a MTC Voyager Kit on it. :(

Hi Gem,

So you currently have a MTC Voyager Kit on your Sportster? And you want to change it to a different trike conversion? If I'm understanding you, you are looking for suggestions on upgrading to a better trike conversion? If so, I would recommend a Frankenstein Trike conversion.

Papa Zook is the resident expert on trike conversions and owner of this site, so take his word on the Frankenstein kit. Frankenstein is a great kit for your Sportster,

Yes and its gawd awful.

Yes, I took the thing off of it when I knocked it out of its pre-load (crappy roads here). I really wish I had done more research and never gotten it. Its not for the roads in Maine at all. Maine roads are terribly crowned and rutted.

Many people have recommended Frankenstein, going with that!

I contacted them and asked a lot of questions after all close to 8000, I want to know before I spend the money. My husband found me another sportster with the kit already on it and serviced by Harley. It's newer and less miles than mine. We are on our way to look tomorrow.

It's going to be a tough sell, because I am very sentimental about my sportster and I'd rather just buy the Frankenstein kit for mine. My Sportster "Gertie" is pretty amazing shape and runs beautifully for the 2007 year.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!!

Gem, Welcome.

Last year I went through much of what you are now. I had a Goldwing GL1800 for many years that I loved. I went from riding that to a Spyder for 3 years but still kept the wing and rode it occasionally. When it was time for the Spyder to go I looked long and hard about triking my much loved wing. Bottom line is that it didn't make financial sense and I ended up buying a newer wing that was already triked. Saved a lot of money and now own a newer bike with less miles. I swapped a lot of options and upgrades from my old wing to the new trike that made it feel more like home. Worked out good for me. Good luck..... Jim

Zook gives you good information, he is the trike guru here. My only advice, before you do whatever you do, find someone that can work on it and do the routine maintenance.

Update

Well I sold my 2007 Harley Sportster 1200xl that I had the voyager kit on. Because, I found a 2009 model with less miles and the Frankenstein kit already installed! I got a really good deal on it. I love riding it! I feel much much safer and more comfortable on there road.
