Hi there, I'm new here and wanted to intro myself and maybe find some fellow Cen-Tex trikers to hook up with.

At this time I am having a 2008 Harley Crossbones triked with a Frankenstein conversion kit at Ground Pounders Motorworks in San Antonio. Eight years ago I took a 73 VW Cabriolet with a bad case of body rust and a wrecked 85 Harley FL and built my first trike. This trike was recently given to my brother to make room for the new addition in our garage.

I'm located 1/2 way between Waco & Austin and am looking for some fellow trikers to ride with once my ride is ready 1st or 2nd weekend in May.

I look forward to meeting ya'll

Hey Pup...Welcome to TrikeTalk :). That will be quite a change from the VW trike to a Crossbones/Frankenstein kit, but what a great look that new one will have!!!!! I love the Crossbones!

Yeah I saw a Crossbones one day parked next to me at a hotel I stayed at. I staired at it fo a long time then decided I had to have one.

Shortly after I purchased the bike, I had an ankle fusion surgery that made it scary to ride on 2 wheels anymore. So I decided to trike the crossbones so I can still have the cool look of the bike and still keep my knees in the breeze. I beleive it will look even cooler with the trike kit than it did as a 2 wheeler. As I said before I was a triker long before the new one. So triking the Harley was a no brainer. I dropped the bike off with the shop yesterday and the only thing I am waiting on is the rims I am having made for the trike that match the front wheel of the cross bones (black powder coated rims & hubs with chrome spokes and stainless hub caps)... I can't wait.... I'll share pics as soon as it's done.
The owner of Ground Pounder Motorworks said he will take pictures of the trike building process for his website too. :) The guy from the wheel maker wants to do the same and maybe feature it on his calander. My trike is popular already and has not even been built yet LOL....

Welcome aboard Pup. Looking forward to seeing pictures of a crossbones trike. Very interesting combination.

I have a 93 Electrglide Sport and am looking at a Frankenstein conversion also. Would you tell me why you picked Frankenstein? We live only 150 mi. from the factory and plan to make a visit.

cuz you will be hard pressed to find such a bulletproof, well-made, low-maintenance and inexpensive alternative anywhere else. plus, these guys really stand by their work and make themselves available to help you out if you should have any questions during build or later. i've had mine for almost three years and have never had any issues with it.

I picked Frankenstein for the price and the looks. But more so because of the simple design. Less moving parts = less that can go wrong. My days of wrenching are pretty much over. I would rather spend my free time riding. It's sort of the hard tail of the trike industry, with all of the independent suspensions, pretty bodywork, and such out there. But I like the spartan looks of both the bike and the trike kit... Nothing more than the basics. Also it's a very heavy duty structurally strong setup.

I hope that came across right... LOL...

I have spoken to Frank and others at the company a few times and he and his crew have always been ready to help or answer questions. I have two questions 1. How much does the kit pull down the HP from the original bike? 2. How much fuel milage did you loose?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Hi Ya'll

1. How much does the kit pull down the HP from the original bike?

well, considering the rear end weighs 100lbs and the swingarm and rims/tires are going to add approx another 100lbs, you're looking at close to 200lbs of unsprung weight. i can't give you exact figures but that will rob horsepower quickly. mine was a slug after the conversion. went with an S&S gear drive kit and Andrews H55 cams. those combined with a power commander awakened the beast. i will be going to a 95" soon...

2. How much fuel milage did you loose?

before the accident, i was getting around 45-48 mpg. after the conversion it dropped to around 35 mpg. i admit to not really making gas mileage a priority, as my concern is the ability to get that low end torque and have the passing power needed in big city traffic.

Re: Hi Ya'll

Can U convert anything to a trike ? Even a shaft drive? What is the initial $ and how hard is it to install

Re: Hi Ya'll

Hey Maryo - welcome to TT. Frankenstien makes a great lookin' hot rod/chopper style trike. We tour, and the storage is needed so a full body is handy for us. If I ever trike the Harely, hot-rodding it with a Frankenstien conversion would be on the top of the list.

BTW - what do you consider VERY Northwest Arkanssas? Gravette? Sulpher Springs? Beaty? The east half of Hwy 43 south of Southwest City, MO?;)
I live in Anderson, MO, and work in Bentonville. There are a few folks from the area on this board now.
