Help?

This is the problem I have. When I ride for more than hour I have severe pain in my right shoulder. I thought the rake kit would help but it didn't help with the shoulder pain. It steers and handles a 100% better. Any ideas would be helpful. I more that likely will have shoulder surgery this year. After my wife fully recovers from her surgery. Should I sell the trike and just give up riding but I love it so much.

Louis, I sure wouldn't give up riding until you are positive you have to! Many have come back after recovering from shoulder surgery to being able to ride with much more comfort --- my husband, included!

I added the 2" pull back bars and that helped me. It felt like someone was pouring boiling water on my shoulders, now no pain. I will probably get a new seat before long. Not because of back pain, but because I need to be a little closer to the handle bars for some extra leverage.

You might want to try pullback handle bars. My shoulders hurt before I put a set on my 2011tri-glide. They made a world of a difference.

I'm confused about putting 2" risers on the Triglide. I have heard it can't be done. Can someone enlighten me? I don't have a Triglide but probably the closest thing to one. (Ultra Classic Roadsmith) Also if anyone has put a back rest on what have you used?

I had shoulder pain riding my bike. I changed seats several times and bars, got better but still hurt. Finally installed a driver backrest. Made a big difference. Took a while to get use to it, but it was worth it. I believe the issue was my riding style. I didn't know it at the time but, without the backrest, I was riding in a slouched position. Backrest hold me straight and seems to reduce shoulder pain.

I do have 2 inch pull back risers. My Harley is a Fat Boy trike. I test rode a tri-glide it seams it had more comfort. Although I did not ride it for hour. I just can't have it sit there if I can't ride it. I never heard that a backrest would help I might try to find a seat with a backrest. Thanks for the help.

I have an Ultra Classic with an HD backrest and I could not ride very long (far) without it. I had back pain not shoulder but it sure is nice you may want to try one.

i use the harley hydrolic backrest (full adjustment not pinned in fixed positions) and i put a set of bagger apes (13 in Cyclesmiths) on it.I find the rise of 6 inches from the stock bars really makes a differance along with the backrest which btw i would not ride without.

SEE A DOCTOR!!! You can't offer a remedy until you know what is wrong. A simple muscle pull, aspirin can help. Arthritis pain can also be helped. But you have to know what ails ya.

I get the same pain you are taking about. My sister is a Doctor and when I grilled her about it and out her answers with what I know about muscle and bone I came up with this... Poor riding posture that does not agree with my body. Chances are pull back handle bars, better posture and seating position will help more than a trip to the Doctor's office. Also if Muscles are tight in your shoulders, neck, back, hamstrings or have limited range of motion in any part of your body and or weak muscle combinations. YOU GET PAIN! If I stretch before I ride.. i have less shoulder/neck pain if any!

Of course I'm not a doctor and it's never a bad Idea to see one if you have an issue. But, try the back rest, pull back handle bars, raisers and anything that will give you a better riding position and halt the pain.

The above reply is in no way a bases on anything other than my own personal experiences and second hand information... but some it might just help!

Do the logical thing and see a doctor. If the pain is only when you ride, then that motion aggravates your shoulder. Go see your Ortho/Neuro doc to find out. That should make the decision for you as to whether you should sell the bike.

ladyff1...that was a total brain fart! I just made a correction on my post. I meant to say the 2" pullback bars!
