I know this is a odd subject this time of year, but my wife's birthday is next month and l'm wanting to get her a heated jacket liner. My questions for the ultra knowledgeable folk here are: What is the best brand ? Are the one's that have rechargeable batteries better or the one's that plug into the bike? Also where's the best deal? Thx in advance for all responses!

I have both the plug in full jacket [Tourmaster 15 years old]] and the one with the battery pack full jacket [Cabelas 2 years old].... I only use the battery pack for short rides when it isn't below 20%f, and it works great But it only heats the chest and back..I only have one battery, If i had 2 or 3 extras then i might use it on long rides.
My plug in Heats the chest 'back 'arms' and neck. And i have ridden in temps under 10%f many times using it.. I thing is when I'm out in those low temps ' I always have heavy clothing in the trunk in case of a power failure i.e. you run out of gas' have an electrical problem with the bike...Or you dismount the bike and forget to unplug before you do and rip the wires out of the jacket..Yep i did that once.. Cold ride home that day...You learn quick to be prepared after that..

My wife is pretty cold natured,so she probably won't be riding below 45! How long do the batteries last just knocking the chill off? 5 or 6 hours would probably do it! She only rides on nice days but sometimes it's chilly when we leave and on the way home but warm in the middle of the day.

Personally we like and own the Gerbing jacket liner and gloves. I plug into the bike and don't have to worry about how long we use them; she more than me. We also have two controllers to set temps individually. I like the Gerbing microwire technology and it has served us well for four years so far.

If there fully charged at the start of the ride.. On full maybe 3 hours' On medium 4 hours and on low 5 hours..One thing you should know. They are like a flashlight as the batteries weaken they put out less light.. As as the jacket batteries weaken they put out less heat...

I have a Tourmaster jacket liner, plug in. Keeps chest, back and arms nice and toasty.Been using it for 5 years. A couple years ago, I bought heated glove liners that plug into the jacket. I've ridden when it was 25 degrees and no problem when I wear overpants for the legs.

I have a Tourmaster and never go anywhere without it. Keeps the core body warm and it is so good that at 35 degrees outside I only need a light jacket and keep it on medium. And I hate cold! It connects to the battery and it is the best gift my ex girl friend ever gave me. (Well, almost the best gift)

Paul Harvey would tell us the rest of the story!

I have heated gear from both Gerbings and Warm and Safe and prefer the Warm and Safe plus your AMA membership will give you an 18% discount. Get the plug it style.
