I am fairly new to this, so so please excuse my ignorance. I am thinking of getting an exhaust for my Tri. I want more ground clearance, a little better performance and a more authoritative bark. I like the COBRA 909 slip-ons, and their PowerPort Headpipes, and am looking into their tuner the PowerPro Black, or the Vance and Heins Fuel Pac. . My questions are these:

1. What are the advantages of using aftermarket headpipes over the stock pipes?

2. Are aftermarket headpipes necessary when also using an aftermarket muffler (Slip-Ons)

3. Are all aftermarket headpipes de-catted?

Thanks

To my knowledge all after market head pipes are cat free, please some one jump in and correct me if im wrong. If i was looking for every ounce of power i could get damn the cost i would get an after market head pipe, but if you want to get rid of the heat from the cat and pick up some nice HP and Torque at less money then i would buy a gutted head pipe or gut it your self. The dyno tech at the dealership has shown me many dyno sheets on Hp& torque gains on a gutted stock head pipe with slip-ons and 10 to 12 hp with the same torque gain is very common with slip-ons.You wont see more than 2-3 hp difference with aftermarket head pipes. So if you can justify the extra cost for that little of gain then buy the aftermarket head pipes.I have a gutted stock head pipe on my 16 tri with SE slip-ons and a stage one air cleaner and a fuel moto download and it runs great, while getting 37 MPG two up with enough gear for a long weekend.

1. Sound, Looks, reduced felt heat, small gains in power

2. No

3. To the best of my knowledge, can think of a single aftermarket headpipe that has a catalytic converter in it

Like Myknees said, unless you want a different look, or are looking for every last bit of power, de-catting your stock headpipe to reduce felt heat and gain a little volume in the exhaust note, and a small amount of extra power, that is the most economical option.

I have used two aftermarket headpipes on my Tri-Glide, and have been very pleased with both of them.

Fuelmoto, 2-1-2 ceramic coated- gave extra power, nice exhaust note, reduced felt heat

Power Duals, gave extra power, nice exhaust note, reduced felt heat AND I like the looks of them.

Thanks for the great advise and replies. Turns out COBRA is pretty close to me, so I may ride over there manyana and see what they have to say about their pipes, slip-ons and tuners on a Tri-Glide.

Fullsac headers are pretty hard to beat. price are very good and they offer a line of mufflers and tuners. Just my .02

I had a cobra complete system on my 14 limited. They have a life t warranty on there chrome and are some stand up people. Have meet the same group of guy a couple of times at different menus . I also have had Reinhardt s on two different bikes. Not a fan of their customer service . Had the cross backs on a crossbones. The black on the pipes would get surface rust and had truduels on a road glide the tips turned purple. Both times they said oh well. Guess what oh well they won't get any of my $$_ no more.
