HD Communicator Headset Question

Hi-

Was the HD Communication/entertainment headset for the helmets (not bluetooth) a standard item with the 2015 Tri Glide or did you have to purchase as an option?

I think so. I’ve gotten one with every Harley I’ve bought. But they are considered an expendable item. I’ve never been asked to provide them when I traded in a bike.

And a follow up....What is the general consensus on these? Most reviews I saw said they have poor reliability. Be nice to use the system that's already there on the bike. Thanks.

stupid thing is HD gave me one set when I bought my 2020 TG. Only problem is I can't talk to my wife behind me unless I buy another. One com set does you no good. For $40K you should get two so you can talk to your rider without spending another $150 or so.

guess it's time to beg and steal from someone who has one and dont like or need and willing to part with for next to or at nothing

Good idea. We've used the J&M Elite series headsets for years with good results. Ed Sets makes a good one also from what I've read but I've had no experience with theirs. I buy my J&M headsets from Sierra Electronics - https://www.sierra-mc.com/ If you buy a helmet from them they will install it for free (or maybe a small charge - don't recall for sure). And their prices are competetive on the helmets and they will price match. They are cheaper on the J&M than going direct to J&M. Reason being that J&M won't discount and be in competition with dealer who offer their products but do not discount. Sierra's customer service is second to none. They've been great.

My '15 came with one new. Should have asked for a second one to be thrown in as part of the deal, but did not think of it. I found a second one for half the price of a new one from someone who did not want a wired set. Only problem we have is you have to reseat the helmet connector every now and then. Otherwise, we like the wired units. No batteries to die at inopportune times.

I saw the one headset in the tour pack, made a note, told him I would pull out of the deal unless the second one was part of the sale at the price we agreed upon. I waited until after I met with the sales manager. He made it happen. Do your homework, it was late on Friday, they wanted the sale. This is not the entry level sportster we are talking about here.

I don't use mine, don't wear a helment either so out of luck there, don't have a passenger either, not batting to good here am I, LOL. Can you use them to hear the radio without a helmet and if so then I could use it.

I had two of them and i gave them away....Now i have one with my 19 Tri, I ride solo and i only use a thumb drive for music....I don't get the need to be tethered to the Trike, I will put up with being tethered with my heated gear in the winter but thats it..:Shrug:...

When I bought my '14 the salesan threw in the second for free. When I traded it on the '17 (different dealer) there was no mention of it, but by then we had switched to the SENA bluetooth units, and then to yelling back and forth or sign language... don't use them anymore. The only time I pul one out now is if we are on a long trip and I want to use the CB (I know, dino!)

I got my 2nd headset on EBay unused for about $20.00. It was 3 yrs ago but there were plenty of them on there.
