Searched for this and came up pretty empty...

How many out there are still running the HD side reflectors on the forks and rear fenders? I know I like to be seen, but I pulled these off of my Softtails cause they are just plain UGLY. Have some ideas for paint/pinstripe work on the trike, and these (especially on the rear fenders) are just in the way. The ones on the forks come off without too much trouble, but I'm not too sure about pulling them off the paint without damage.

How about it... pro or con?

Leaving mine on also. Don't see any reason for me to remove them as I did on previous bike.
I have read that spraying WD-40 on the mounting tape will help loosen them. Dental floss between the paint and tape should get them off. Give the WD-40 some time to work though.

Yep, WD-40 is a Penetrating oil, not a lubricating oil like some may believe .

I've always used goo-b-gone and fishing line. Come right off. HOWEVER, that has been on Sportsters and metal, not sure about paint...never taken on off a TG. I would read the goo-b-gone bottle first to make sure no damage to paint, and be careful with the fishing line.

I leave them on. I also use 1/4" SOLAS tape around the lip of my tour pac and along the edge of the floor boards. SOLAS tape is suppose to be the most reflective material around. I'm even thinking of putting it around the outer rim of my wheels in 1" segments - that should be pretty impressive. The more lights and reflective material I can use the better - as long as it doesn't get too gaudy. :D
You don't notice the tape in the daylight.

I've seen a couple riders put reflective tape on almost every square inch of their bikes = that's too radical for me.

My 09 Tri Glide was red so I never gave much thought to removing or leaving them. The FLRT on the other hand....They stood out on the black body/fenders and IMO really looked like crap..

For me, the reflectors are one of the first things to go! They are so butt-ugly :)kpzxvq:), and have such a "stuck-on" :)Joker3:) look, that I find them distracting to the look of the motorcycle. I guess I just like the cleaner look.

I removed mine from the fenders with the fishing line being careful but it was really easy. The left on glue I took off with 3M adhesive/glue remover I picked up from NAPA. I use it all the time to take the glue off the car paint where decals once were.

Just to throw in a totally useless point, those reflectors front and rear are required by our 'guvmnt' regulations for manufacturers to install. The bikes/trikes I built always had them installed, but removing them was usually one of the first mods a new owner made.

Well, I never expected to get this many diametrically opposed viewpoints. I guess I will have to think about it some more, but they are probably coming off. Maybe LEDs instead...

Thanks for all the feedback!

There's no in between - you either like them or hate them. Me personally - I'd rather be as safe as possible instead of "looking cool". There's just too many drivers out there trying to kill me - "But officer, I didn't see him". I've lost too many friends that way. JMHO

If I could put a red revolving light on my TG, I would. :AGGHH:

I've even been known to wear a reflective vest once in a while - which makes Harley riders point and snicker.

At least I'm still alive.

Be safe out there.

:Agree:

I have removed mine and many others for them. I use a small plastic pry bar I got from harbor freight (also great for popping off cover to check coolant) and a hair dryer. The hair dryer heats up the glue which allows it to release easier. If there is any glue left on the fender the 3M adhesive remover is great. I got my 3M adhesive remover from O'Reilly auto parts. I have never scratched any paint doing it this way.

Looks allot cleaner on the black with out them....
