Harley No Longer King

The Harley customer wants their m/c to look and sound a certain way and if it doesn't they're not interested. Every time Harley has tried to bring something new to the market it has failed, because the customer wants the same old same old!

Exactly. Who wants to buy a Harley that looks and sounds like a yamasuki? If I wanted a yamasuki I would buy one.

We buy Harleys because that is what we want.

Put $100 in 3/2013 Went all in 5/2013 when they told me I would be driving mine Spring/Summer 2014. Its always "About a year away" And the cost of starting production continues to rise.....:gah:

Actually I upped it to $1.000 in may of 2013 when I went & sat in the prototype. So I and 55.000 other people continue to wait. They say they now need 312 million to get this to production. Back when I reserved it was 150 million. Nobody in their right mind is gonna invest this lind of money into a non tested vehicle/market, High volume, low profit margin vehicle. If they would of they would of done it by now. And the Gub'ment loan application is 2 years old now. Their debt is 100 million.....Don't know how much longer this can go on!

HMMMMMM; What does that tell you? Must be a lot of people want em just the way they are. I do. Well, they could be a tad cooler running.

Harley has some great engineers, who are held back by their customers! The Harley customer wants their m/c to look and sound a certain way and if it doesn't they're not interested. Every time Harley has tried to bring something new to the market it has failed, because the customer wants the same old same old! There is no doubt that they are one of the greatest marketing companies out there and I like to see an American company do well. I might own one someday, although they pissed me off years ago with their we have em and you want em so we're gonna charge you 5k over regular price! Plus they are a little small for a guy who is 6'7". That being said I don't look for the company to go away anytime soon

The Motor Co. didn't raise their sticker prices,it was the individual dealers. Many other manufacturers with high-demand items have seen their dealers do the same thing. Price fixing is illegal, you know.

If you want a bike or trike to fit your 6'7" frame, buy a Boss Hoss. They're built for large folks. :)

The Boss Hoss is built near where I live and they have a homecoming every year. I have test rode them many times, talk about engine heat, they give that phrase a whole new meaning! I do like the look though.

I know you're right about the dealers, but since you couldn't go to the factory to pick one up its kinda the same thing as raising prices. I don't think Harley did anything to try and stop the price gouging!
Anyways it's a moot point now because there are plenty to go around now.

Athough this has been fun to talk about I'm a firm believer in ride what you like or can afford. As a friend of mine says " just ride ride ride ":Coffee:

Well if you and the other 55 thousand pony up another grand each, Then maybe, Just maybe the Elio will finely be a reality .... ;)....I think it was Einstein who once said; Insanity is doing the same thing's over again and expecting different results... :D

Harley is still King !

The issue at hand is not the equipment, but the operators.

Most Millennialis prefer virtual reality to REALITY !

Sitting on the couch in a dark room with a room full of virtual friends you most likely will never meet and a big bowl of extra butter popcorn.

The other points you have made are valid, but not the root cause.

Dang...how did I miss this???

From Harley to Elio to Yamasuki to Boss Hoss to AR-15's... gosh you gotta love it

Facts as I see it with my sunglasses on, in my clouded, prejudiced world. (yes, I am a Harley snob)

1. Harley is still the "King" of the American motorcycle scene. There are other quality brands out there, Foreign and American made. But if we have to explain what it means to "US" to ride a Harley...well your really just not going to understand...and that's OK...to each their own

2. Elio...once again, to each their own

3. Boss Hoss, I would love to own one...that has got to be a serious TQ rush

4. Ar-15, HMMMM...with our open carry laws in Texas now, I reckin i could put one of my ATV rifle holsters on "Elvira", but I think I will just stay with my Kel-Tec PMR-30 in the Tour Pack and my S&W 357 Bodyguard in the RGC glove box while riding and front pocket when dismounted
