Well trike friends here it is. I was hit again on my bike (trike) on 11/30/2012. I was having a great day riding my bike. It was clear and sunny until I was hit in the rear when I was stopped at a red light on US 61 and Highway 73 and then push into another car. He hit me because he was texting. (A eye witness saw him). This is my third wreck on a motorcycle. The first one was in 97 That one I almost loss my life. The second one 2010I lost my left leg. Then this one I hurt my left hip and left shoulder. Is it time to give up what I love to do because there is so many careless drivers out there.

We have to deal with them more than ever. I love all my biker friends they mean so much to me. There giving and carrying they pray and give thanks to God for His mercies and enduring love for bikers. My friends pray for me and they care so much. Please pray for me again. It's kind have been in low place in my life right now. I'm concern about getting my bike fixed. That bike means a lot to me right now. After losing my leg it was able to bring me back to a normal life. My question to my friends is should I give riding up. You know three strikes and your out.

Shelley my wife loves me and supports that I want to ride. She just hates getting the call that I was hit again. Please pray for us. So we can make a decision on my riding future. Because of my hip being hurt I will more than likely need a new hip.( I have a artificial one now) don't know what they can do about the shoulder. I have a appointment with my doctor Tuesday to see what the options are. My trike is my big concern right now. I need to get it fixed. I put a lot into this bike. I hope it can be fixed as good as new. Love you guys thanks for letting me vent a little.

First of all see what the doctor says and get yourself healed. In the meantime get the trike fixed. Once you are all healed up, you and your wife should talk about riding again or not. It will be up to you and her and your doctor if you ride again. And only you will know for sure if you want to ride again. I pray for your quick recovery and well being.

Do NOT Ever, EVER give up what you love doing just because of a bunch a sick twisted a$$ holes in cars!!! It could have happened if you were a passenger in a car as that texting piece of garbage smashed into your backside. If I were you I would take my mind off the trike & riding again by finding the biggest, nastyist lawyer to sued that texting pile of ____ so bad that he can't even pay for a phone to text on!!! I know its not a nice thing to do, but if I catch a texter while in my car, I will swerve towards them, if on my TG they get a blast from my mini-beast air horn & the pipes and sometimes it will happen more than once! I hope your injuries aren't as bad as it seems to you and my get better soon.

I so much hate to hear that news! What a difficult time for you this is! I agree with what was said above --- get yourself well, get the trike fixed, THEN make your decision. The idiot who ran into you should more than pay any bills, and you and your wife will have time to think and pray this through.

Meanwhile, you absolutely have our thoughts and prayers with you throughout this time! Please keep us posted.

I cannot truly express my feelings towards the "A.H." who hit you while he was texting. If I did, I would be banned from this forum!

May you heal quickly and completely. We only go down this road once. It would be a shame to give up something you truly love doing. The decision whether to give up riding should be between you and your wife. I can't blame you for considering that after a third hit which once again, wasn't your fault!

My prayers for your healing, physically and mentally. I cannot imagine making your decision, or even being in your position. I know that for me, getting the trike made me feel "whole" again, after 3 years of not riding. Just knowing that I could ride anytime changed my perspective, and lightened my mental load, as far as my physical limitations were concerned. I hope that you can come to the decision that is right for you and your wife.

I echo everyone's sentiments, get well, get the trike fixed and then decide. The biggest thing is if someone saw this person texting make sure it becomes part of the official record and nail him or his insurance company to the wall. People who talk on the phone and text message just make my blood boil.

All the above wishes I also send. Maybe you could look into starting a group of like minded people and start lobbying your politicians to enact a law outlawing cell phones in cars - and make the %$#@ penalty REALY BIG. Death penalty for killing someone down to $5K for the lowest fine. None of this pansywaist $100 fine or community service crap. Make then KNOW they did something wrong.
I am really getting tired of reading about %$$@ texting or talking on a cell phone while driving. I do have a cell phone and it stays in my trunk - for emergencies only.
Only a moron would text while driving so we need to get them off the streets.

Was it a kid that doesn't know any better or an adult that should know better??

Sorry for my rant - BUT I REALLY HATE PEOPLE THAT TEXT WHILE DRIVING
I doen't even like seeing them talking on a cell phone while driving.

Get better soon, get your bike fixed and then think it through and make up your mind.

I too am sorry that you got nailed by that a-hole.
After you get your bike fixed, Please do not give it up if you love to ride!!!! I can sure understand your hesitation, but please don't let them win!!. Good luck gettin' yourself repaired and hope all goes better for you. Please keep us informed.

Oh !@#$%^ Not again!! Last month a 2w friend was seriously hospitalized because some !@#$%% crossed a double yellow He will always need a cane to walk. In my line of work, that means sitting behind a desk & suffering debilitating migraines. Will put a good thought out for you. God Bless.

I can not add to what has all ready been said. Get better and get back on your trike. This could of happened if your were in a car also. You are not at fault the other person that was not doing their job was. We can not stay home in a fish bowl and watch the world go by because of this type of person.

This really hits home for me, a dear friend is permanently disabled because of a punk txing and driving not too long ago. He now has a really nice trike.

Sadly, another rider in the group lost his life to this P.O.S. on the same day.
It's illegal here to tx and drive, also a law of being distracted while driving. They caught some moron on a major hiway recently 40 kph over the speed limit..what was he doing? Watching porn on his lap top!!!:AGGHH:

Unfortunately...the penalties are not high enough to discourage this type of crap! I still see people on a daily basis..txing and not paying attention as they know better. I pray you will overcome this accident as you did the others, you my friend are a strong person and I'm sure you will recover and ride again...NEVER give up!ThumbUp

Get well soon & nail that SOB who hit you. Get the bike fixed & get back on it. I know its easy to say but you need to climb back on or you never will. Don't let it get the better of you. It's illegal to text & drive here but I never see any cops pull anybody over. I see people do all the time & don't think anything of it. Our prayers are with you.

As one who is also healing from an nonattenive driver I feel your pain and concern if it's worth risking life and limb to continue riding. I myself made the decision to continue to ride and pray that I can continue to still have a long & safe life from these type of drivers we have today. I do know that at my age I don't heal quite so quickly any more and if I was take another serious hit I'm not so sure I'd get back on the horse again. We all have to at some time in life make that desision on whehter to ride or not. As the guys have already said try to get well and see what your thoughts will be afterwards. Do get as much as you can from the idiot and their insurance company by hiring a good lawyer.
Larry

I know how you feel,10 years ago a kid crossed the center line and hit me head on while I was onboard my Honda Gold Wing. Spent 2 years going thru 9 surguries. But the way I feel is its not my fault and its not the bikes fault. Granted third time around you have to have some good stamana, but it still applies. My heart goes out to you as you go thru the mending faze, and you HAVEto have the support of the better half. But cross that bridge when you get to it. Get well first, let the lawyers battle it out, then make your decision.

as a lot of people have said..i think you should do what makes you happy. its also good to be mindfull of our lovedones fears, but life isnt a rehearsal. this is it for our time on earth.
my bike makes me smile every time i ride. every rider has had their falls, some worse than others, but if i get shot by a random nutter it wont stop me going outside.
you could paint your bike bright yellow, research says its the safest easiest to see colour.
but a fool texting doesnt see anything.
life is fragile, and we all dodge dangers and have scars to prove it. but sometimes its the simple pleasure of the wind in our faces, or the smells you only smell on a bike that make life special.
i think the risks of motorcycles makes the joys even sweeter.
just do your best to minimise the danger
my 2 cents worth

Yep, there are no guarantees or absolutes in life... you have to do what you love and follow your heart. The only real downside that I can see is trying to deal with your loved ones fears. Me?... I decided to get back up, climb back on and look ahead. If I didn't do anything that might hurt me, I'd never get out of bed in the morning.;)

Motorcyclemania, you have a big decision to make. Take one day at a time. Give yourself time to heal, physically and emotionally. I agree with everyone else, repair the trike and make sure that the idiot responsible pays for ALL the damage they have caused. My prayers are with you. I also pray that you and your wife have a Merry Christmas.
